Royal Family put on a united front in Commonwealth TV special hours before Meghan and Harry’s explosive Oprah interview

· March 6, 2021 ·

THE Royal Family has banded together in a TV special to mark Commonwealth Day, which will be screened just hours before Meg and Harry's Oprah bombshell. William and Kate hail the heroics of front-line workers around the Commonwealth and Camilla talks about getting children reading. Teaser clips from the one-hour special screened tomorrow/today show Prince Charles blasting Covid-19 for "cruelly robbing countess people of their lives". In a possible aside about Harry and Meg's exile to the USA he adds pandemic restrictions have denied us "the human connections which we so dearly cherish". The Commonwealth Day special has been pre-recorded last week after the Westminster Abbey ceremony was cancelled due to the pandemic. It will air just hours before Harry and Meghan’s interview with chat queen Oprah Winfrey; which is set to be broadcast at primetime in the UK. And it follows claims from insiders that staff nicknamed Prince Harry "the Hostage" ahead of his wedding … [Read more...] about Royal Family put on a united front in Commonwealth TV special hours before Meghan and Harry’s explosive Oprah interview

Dancing on Ice crisis as semi-final will feature just 12 minutes of skating in two hour show

· March 5, 2021 ·

THIS year’s Dancing on Ice semi-final will feature just 12 minutes of skating to fill a two-hour slot. The injury and illness-hit ITV show has just four celebrities left standing — former Olympian Colin Jackson , 54, rapper Lady Leshurr , 32, Faye Brookes, 33, and Capital DJ Sonny Jay, 27. Each of them will perform two 90-second routines as they vie for a place in the rescheduled finale a week on Sunday. It leaves producers with the unenviable task of spinning it out into two hours of prime-time telly. A source said: “With the reduced numbers, there’s going to be a lot of filling for time.” The show has been dogged by a spate of celebrity withdrawals — three with injuries and two following coronavirus infections. ITV bosses have already let the show take a week’s break to allow stars an extra seven days to recover from injuries and niggles. And the final has been brought forward by a week because there are too few stars left to eke out each show to … [Read more...] about Dancing on Ice crisis as semi-final will feature just 12 minutes of skating in two hour show

Last man called by one of the murdered ‘Essex Boys’ was never questioned by police

· March 5, 2021 ·

The last man called by one of three gangsters murdered in the 1995 “Essex Boys” killings was never questioned by police, it has emerged. Retired detective David McKelvey says the suspected villain was linked to a man who has previously been named as the shooter, but was never charged. Instead Jack Whomes and Michael Steele were jailed for life after being convicted of blasting the drug dealers with a shotgun in their Range Rover 26 years ago. But Mr McKelvey, and his team of highly experienced former murder detectives, now claim to have found evidence supporting the account of an East End crook who told police he was the getaway driver for the real killer. Mr McKelvey, who runs private investigation firm TM-Eye, said: “We have done a thorough and detailed investigation which has led us to believe there may have been a miscarriage of justice. “Compelling new evidence throws the case into doubt and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward.” The bodies of Pat Tate, 36, … [Read more...] about Last man called by one of the murdered ‘Essex Boys’ was never questioned by police

Budget 2021 news – NHS nurses’ FURY at ‘pitiful’ 1% pay rise after covid created toughest year in living memory

· March 5, 2021 ·

NHS nurses have slammed the government's proposal of a 'pitiful' 1 per cent pay rise after Rishi Sunak warmed Britain will be paying off Covid debts for decades. The Royal College of Nursing said nurses should be getting 12.5% more and said the government should expect a "backlash" should the suggested pay rise goes ahead. A staggering 1 million people will be dragged into paying the higher rate of income tax by 2025 thanks to the Chancellor's plans, they warned - taking the total to 5 million. Paul Johnson, from the IFS, warned that further tax rises are likely to lie ahead and said it was a "tale of two budgets" as the Chancellor extended several support packages including furlough for months to come. He said the tax burden is set to rocket to levels not seen since the 1960s, and warned gloomily: “It is possible we'll see even bigger ones over the next few years”. Mr Johnson said: “Take account of the cuts to planned spending announced in the Autumn and Santa Sunak, … [Read more...] about Budget 2021 news – NHS nurses’ FURY at ‘pitiful’ 1% pay rise after covid created toughest year in living memory
