PUBLISHED: 15:00 05 April 2018 Hayley Anderson Young farmers from Wellgate Community Farm visited the Mercury Mall at the weekend. Mercury Mall Families visiting a shopping centre certainly knew spring had arrived at the weekend as they got to cuddle up to some farm animals. Visitors to The Mercury Mall were given a real treat as staff from Wellgate Community Farm, Collier Row, brought with them a mixture of lambs, goats, ducks and rabbits for children to see and handle. For a small donation, children could also have their faces painted, take part in an Easter egg hunt or have their photo taken with the Easter rabbit. The money was raised for children’s charity First Step and Saint Francis Hospice. A face cream on sale in Aylesbury has been found to contain traces of hazardous element mercury. Formula AA Arche Pearl Cream, imported from Thailand, could be harmful says Bucks County Council’s Trading Standards which is now investigating the product.The cream, used to lighten the skin and get rid of acne, has been bought by some people in Aylesbury although Trading Standards could not confirm how many.The product packaging states it contains no mercury, but the results of the analysis received by Trading Standards this week has shown traces of mercury to be present. A former editor of the Hertfordshire Mercury who served the county for 40 years has died. Roy Watson was also a leading figure among local Rotarians and in cricket circles prior to his death last month aged 92. Mr Watson’s widow Ursula said she had received more than 30 cards and messages of condolence paying tribute to him. “All the cards have said he was a true gentleman,” she said. “He was very much at the heart of the community.” Born in Old Stevenage before the creation of the New Town, Mr Watson was one of five brothers. After a brief period working for the Hertfordshire Express in Hitchin, he joined the Hertford-based Mercury in 1950 as a reporter. He would remain at the title for four decades, rising through the ranks as a chief reporter and sub-editor before taking over the editorship. Picture: Mercury Mall Mercury Mall Shoppers have egg-ceeded expectations as many donated chocolate treats as part of a shopping centre’s Easter egg appeal. Over the past few weeks, The Mercury Mall has been asking people to buy an extra chocolate egg when out shopping for their friends and family and donate it by dropping it into the giant Egg Pod at the centre’s help desk. More than 200 eggs were donated and staff from shopping centre donated them to Ravenscourt Nursing Home, Hornchurch and Emerson Court residential home, Hornchurch.
