Lorenzen Wright's ex-wife should not be granted early release from a 30-year prison sentence she received after pleading guilty to plotting the retired NBA player's 2010 slaying, a Tennessee Board of Parole member said Wednesday. Barrett Rich recommended the board deny parole for Sherra Wright during a hearing at the Nashville prison where she has been held since she pleaded guilty in July 2019 to facilitation of first-degree murder. The rest of the seven-member board will now review Sherra Wright's parole case. A final decision will be reached when there are three votes that agree, a process that could take a couple of weeks. Sherra Wright received the hearing based on her so-called “safety valve” date, which is the earliest possible release date for some inmates under an executive order regarding prison overcrowding. Tennessee's Department of Correction said she has received more than three years of credit related to her time served. Lorenzen Wright's slaying is … [Read more...] about Board member votes against parole for Sherra Wright

There could be a solution before too long, after it emerged that WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets you quietly leave a group chat without sending a notification to other members. The new feature was first spotted by independent WhatsApp experts WABetaInfo, which searches early beta versions of the app to identify upcoming features before they are released. It clarified in a blog post that group admins will still be able to see who exits the group when the feature becomes available, but other members won't. The new feature could prevent awkward confrontations with more sensitive group members who might take your departure badly. That made it hard for younger squad members like Danny Simpson to break through. The defender was afforded opportunities at the start of the 2007/08 season and made eight appearances under Fergie as they record a league and Champions League double. But he eventually … [Read more...] about Six forgotten members of legendary teams – from Man Utd CL sub to Arsenal Invincible

Finland’s Parliament approves NATO membership application
Finland's legislature on Tuesday approved the country's bid for NATO membership with 188 votes in favor and eight against, Parliament Speaker Matti Vanhanen said. The vote comes after two days of parliamentary debate, during which the foreign affairs committee said "Russia's long-standing aggressive policies and the goal of dividing Europe into new spheres of influence took on a new dimension after the country's invasion of Ukraine ." "Failure to respond would lead to a narrowing of Finland's foreign, security and defense policy," it added. The vote in Parliament was seen a formality, as Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanna Marin had already announced that Finland would go ahead and that minimal opposition was expected. We all agree that we must stand together, and we all agree that this is an historic moment which we must seize.” “This is a good day at a critical moment for our security,” a beaming Stoltenberg said, as he stood alongside Finland's and Sweden's ambassadors to NATO.
