Could Bitcoin crash make El Salvador go BUST? Government has already lost $40m amid plans to build crypto city
El Salvador's The losses - equal to the Central American country's next bond payment - come amid a so-called 'crypto winter' and the president's plans to build a volcano-powered 'crypto city' to mine bit coin. President Nayib Bukele announced in September that El Salvador would become the first country in the world to accept Bitcoins as legal tender and forked out $105 million on the digital currency. But since then its value has fallen 45% amid a general bursting of the crypto bubble, slicing the value of the 2,301 Bitcoins bought by state coffers down to $66 million. The decision to make Bitcoin legal tender has nonplussed bond investors, who see it as exposing the state coffers to the volatility of the crypto market and thus hitting the country's ability to make bond payments. 'It's risky because it's an extremely volatile asset, and it's an investment that is totally at the discretion of the president,' Bloomberg report former El Salvador Central Bank Chief Carlos … [Read more...] about Could Bitcoin crash make El Salvador go BUST? Alison Hammond found herself in trouble in Italy and was nearly arrested after filming near the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The TV presenter is currently on a European Disney Cruise for the TV show, but hopped off at Pisa to get a shot of the iconic tower for the daily live link. However, as she tried to cut through to the prize information from outside the tower, police ran in to cut off filming. Holly and Phil were left looking stunned as a woman stood in front of Alison so she couldn’t be filmed. The cameraman was then ushered away from the area behind a gate as Alison attempted to carry on regardless. Warning for hunters: meat could be contaminated with lead
People who eat game meat could be inadvertently contaminating themselves with lead. Now, a new study is hoping to discover just how much lead is left behind in the meat of animals killed by lead bullets – and they want hunters to donate mince for testing. A research team at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology has joined an international consortium researching the use of lead ammunition in hunting. Dr Eric Buenz, research professor of applied industries at NMIT, said overseas studies had found between 10% and 50% of meat samples studied were found to have traces of lead. The 41-year-old took centre stage at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday evening when she wore the figure-hugging Jean Louis gown that Monroe wore when she sang 'Happy Birthday' to then-US president John F. Kennedy at a fundraiser held at Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962. The SKIMS founder was loaned the outfit from the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum, which paid $4.8m (£3.9m) for the dress - that has more than 6,000 crystals adorned on it - at an auction in November 2016.
