Sandra Holliday, Cheltenham's new mayor, was elected by 25 votes in favour, two against and six abstentions, by fellow councillors. But fellow Liberal Democrat colleague, Wendy Flynn said she could not support Holliday's candidacy due to her "expressed views that are racist". Ms Holliday said she has apologised and is pleased the vast majority of her colleagues elected her as mayor. Ms Flynn told the Local Democracy Reporting Service , she had tried to challenge a culture within the Lib Dem group which is "unwelcoming to people of colour". "Last year's annual meeting was unpleasant. The current mayor-elect had sent an email which contained offensive and racist comments," she said. Cheltenham deputy mayor’s words had ‘racial impact’
Published 18 May 2021 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The appointment of Cheltenham's deputy mayor has been opposed by a Liberal Democrat who said comments the former made last year had a 'racial impact'. Wendy Flynn said electing Sandra Holliday would make a mockery of the council's opposition to racism. She said Ms Holliday had defended a former councillor who was censured for using a racial slur at a meeting. Ms Holliday said she had apologised unreservedly and was voted in by 14 votes to six, with 11 abstentions. Former Cheltenham Borough Council member Dennis Parsons was censured for using a slur four times during a meeting in June 2020. 'Deny past racism' Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service last year, Ms Holliday said the former councillor's language was "ill-judged" but his broad point was that "we learn from the past". She also … [Read more...] about Cheltenham deputy mayor’s words had ‘racial impact’

Two people were also injured and 11 of those he shot were black. He also mentioned a number of UK towns and court cases, including the Asian grooming gang trial in Rotherham. Gendron live streamed the bloodbath as he tore through the Tops Friendly supermarket in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday. He had reportedly scrawled the N-word on his rifle. Payton Gendron ( Image: Erie County District Attorney/AF) As the first of the gunman’s victims were named last night, it emerged police were alerted to him last year after he threatened to shoot fellow students. How much would you pay for two cocktails and some crab legs? One Greek restaurant says $1000
A shocked American tourist is planning to go to the police on the Greek island of Mykonos after being charged close to NZ$1000 for two cocktails and a snack at a beach restaurant. The huge cost also included a NZ$129 tip. Eye-watering prices are not uncommon in Mykonos, but even by most standards this bill has left a distinctly bad taste.
