LOS ANGELES - AFP Marvel's superhero films could lose their most famous character after Sony confirmed Aug. 21 that talks over its deal to share Spider-Man with the Disney-owned studio have broken down. The Marvel movies have together grossed $22 billion at the global box office, and British actor Tom Holland's Spider-Man has become an increasingly central figure in the most lucrative franchise in film history. But while the teen web-slinger has for decades been the crown jewel of the Marvel comic book empire on which the films are based, Sony owns the character's movie rights. The announcement about the American comics artist's death was made on his Facebook page. It has been clarified that he died at the age of 88, and the cause of death was cancer. Colón has fought cancer for the past year. Colón, born on 13 July 1931 in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, began his career at Harvey Comics. In collaboration with DC and Marvel, he worked on the creation of Beetlejuice #1 (1991), Casper and ... #1, 3 (1987–1988), Legion of Super-Heroes vol. 2-3 and etc. Colón also edited the Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash comic books. A Perth mum has described how overjoyed her autistic son was by a local cinema’s surprise gesture which helped him enjoy his eighth birthday. Josh Chalmers, a “massive” Avengers and Marvel comic fan, hoped he could see his favourite superheroes in action. But until now, autism friendly ‘relaxed’ film showings at Perth Playhouse have only been scheduled for a Thursday morning, during school time. The youngster from Oakbank Primary was able to celebrate his birthday on Sunday by going with his family to an autism-friendly showing of Endgame, the latest in the series of Avengers films, after the independent cinema’s general manager listened to a request by Josh’s mum, Atia. Josh described his birthday as “the best weekend ever” when he wrote up his school journal and picked out his trip to see Endgame as the best part of his day on Sunday.
