Through this project, the firm is set to create 3,000 jobs at the electric battery factory and over 5,000 in the associated supply chains. By now you might have heard that electric vehicles are fast . But R.J. Scaringe, the founder and CEO of Rivian, is out to prove they can also be fierce. He calls Rivian's all-electric SUV an adventure vehicle — something drivers could use to both tackle a trail and get their groceries. "We wanted the vehicles to truly be capable of going anywhere," Scaringe told CBS News' senior environmental correspondent Ben Tracy during a recent test drive at the company's test track in central Illinois. Rivian, which won the race to deliver the first all-electric pickup truck, is launching its SUV amid major questions about whether it can deliver on its ambitious goals. When the company went public late last year, its stock surge briefly made it one of most valuable automakers in the world, worth more than General Motors and Ford. UK gov to force tech firms to scan Brits’ private messages for child abuse images
Tech companies could soon be forced to scan UK citizens' private phones and messages for child sexual abuse material. The government has proposed a new policy as part of its controversial online safety bill that would see encrypted WhatsApp messages and other apps spied on by tech firms in the hope of stopping child abusers. If tech companies don't comply or go ahead with new encrypted privacy features, they could face massive fines under the plans.
