A former Premier League footballer is suing an Ibiza beach club run by Gary Lineker's younger brother Wayne for £8.5 million after he was left paralysed when he dived into its pool. Jonathan Hutchinson, a former Birmingham City defender, broke his neck while partying on holiday with his friend in the “day club” section of the Ocean Beach Club in June 2016. The two friends had been drinking and “milling around” the bar area when they arrived at the resort, now re-branded as O Beach Ibiza, in the early evening, according to his lawyers. But only hours later, emergency services were called to haul Hutchinson, 37, out of the pool by his shorts after guests noticed him “floating” in the water. Hutchinson, who works as a welding inspector, now has to use a wheelchair as his motor functions were significantly impaired by the accident. When travel from the UK does resume it will operate under a 'traffic light system' with green, amber and red lists that determine quarantine and testing rules when you return to the UK. Exactly 120 years after the battle that ended the last great Maya revolt in Mexico's Yucatan area, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador marked the anniversary with words never before said by a Mexican president. "We offer the most sincere apologies to the Maya people for the terrible abuses committed by individuals and national and foreign authorities in the conquest, during three centuries of colonial domination and two centuries of an independent Mexico," he said Monday while visiting the rebellion's headquarters in Tihosuco, Quintana Roo state. Lopez Obrador, also known as AMLO, said Maya people had been especially subjected to "exploitation, plundering, repression, racism, exclusion and massacres." To some, his acknowledgment didn't come as a surprise because of his roots working with indigenous groups in the late 1970s.
