Runners are being warned that temperatures on Sunday could exceed the warmest London Marathon on record, with a chance of the mercury rising to 23C or higher at some points along the route. Thundery showers overnight on Saturday means that temperatures are likely to be high after a humid start, Met Office forecasters have warned. The warmest London Marathon on record was in 1996 when it reached 22.7C in St James’s Park. 🌞IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS TO RUNNERS🌞https://t.co/dwY36TNLu7 #LondonMarathon pic.twitter.com/AycPDTnePB— London Marathon (@LondonMarathon) April 21, 2018 Runner’s World has warned competitors tomorrow to be aware of the impact the warm weather can have on them. Every 2-3C rise in temperature above 15C can slow a runner’s pace by as much as 20 to 30 seconds per mile. This year’s London Marathon could be the hottest on record as the Met Office warns it will feel very warm for the runners on the capital’s streets. In 1996 a highest temperature of 22.7C (72.8F) was set at the annual event, and it looks as though the record which was set 22 years ago could be under threat. Two years earlier he had been suffering breathlessness and crippling chest pains while serving as a … [Read more...] about Dad with brain cancer and one lung to run London Marathon to prove docs wrong

This year’s London Marathon will feature ordinary Mancunians who have endured extraordinary things. Runners whose biggest achievement will not be crossing the line, but beating the odds to even take part in the race. The Manchester Evening News has spoken to three inspirational women who are taking part in Sunday’s event in the capital. “Every time I run and my heart pounds in my chest I’m reminded I’m still living”, Katie Barratt says. When her heart stopped 13 times in one night, her life changed forever. Then just 21, Katie was told she would never finish her degree, would never be able to work full time and would never be able to take part in strenuous exercise. But she has proved the doctors wrong as next month she will take on the London Marathon to raise … [Read more...] about The marathon runners who’ve made incredible journeys to the starting line
