A MAN has died and another man has been left fighting for his life following a shooting outside a gym in Dublin. The 22-year-old was shot in the head and chest in the car park of Gym Plus at around 7.30pm yesterday. The second man, said to be in his mid 20s was shot in the chest and arm. He has been taken to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Local Fianna Fail councillor Darragh Butler described the incident as "shocking and frightening". He said: "People are shocked. It's a busy area, with shops, pubs, fast food restaurants and the gym, and especially this time of year with more people going to the gym to keep their new year's resolutions. "It happened at a time when a lot of people would have been coming home from work, anyone could have got caught up in it. A 37-year-old man is this morning fighting for his life after being allegedly stabbed in Derby. Police have cordoned off a pavement in Normanton Road after being called to an address in nearby Melbourne Street at around 4.20am. The scene, next to Southgate Retail Park, is being guarded by three police cars. There is also a police cordon in place in Melbourne Street. A 41-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police say the 37-year-old man is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after being attacked to his neck. Residents have reacted with shock to the incident. A worker at Dhillons Off Licence - just opposite the cordon - said: “I came here to open up and saw the police car and tape and thought something serious has happened. “I don’t like to hear this is happening so close to us. THE father of Irish Olympic boxer Katie Taylor has made one of his first public appearances since being injured in a shooting last month.Pete Taylor (57) attended the fight between west Belfast boxer Michale Conlan and Brazilian Adeilson Dos Santos at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Saturday evening.Mr Taylor was with his partner Karen Brown.He was shot during an early morning attach at the Bray Boxing Club in Co Wicklow he owns on June 5 where he was training fighters.One man Bobby Messett (50) died in the attack, while another was injured.It is understood Mr Messett, fell victim because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was struck when he looked out to see what was going on.He was among 20 people taking part in a 7am fitness session when the killer struck.The Saturday night Conlan fight included on its undercard a young boxer, Gary Cully, who trains at Mr Taylor's gym.Following Cully's victory Mr Taylor's gym posted a tribute to Mr Messett on social media.They wrote: … [Read more...] about Katie Taylor’s dad attends Belfast boxing fight a month after gym shooting
