After months of speculation over his future, Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is set to sign a new deal at the club - and the fans are furious. The Belgian international's current contract expires on Saturday and he has kept Jose Mourinho waiting for months, refusing to sign the new contract on offer from the club. The United boss is a big fan of the 30-year-old and is determined to keep hold of him but some of the fans are less than happy that he will be sticking around for another two years. Fellaini was David Moyes' first signing in 2013 but despite winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League he's a divisive figure amongst United fans with many hoping he would finally be leaving this summer. But now the fans are going to have to watch him play for another two years. Really?! Seriously? Terrible news. Oh dear. There were plenty of gifs like this. No positive. Bullied over a new deal. Paul Scholes has suggested England coach Gareth Southgate shows more belief in Jesse Lingard than Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. Lingard has started both of England's World Cup group wins over Tunisia and Panama, scoring a wonderful curler in the latter thrashing and is set to line up against Belgium on Thursday. The 25-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career, netting 13 times for United and scoring his first international goal in the March win over the Netherlands. Lingard figured in 33 of United's 38 Premier League fixtures and started 30 times last term but Scholes, who has become a vocal critic of Mourinho, has questioned the Portuguese's handling of Lingard. "I've worked a lot with Jesse," Scholes told Radio Five Live. "He was a late developer and the coaches have to realise that. Warren Joyce, brilliant coach was with the Under-23s, was with him and realised it's going to take him a bit of time. "It took me ages. I was always the last out of our group to get a … [Read more...] about Manchester United great bizarrely criticises Jose Mourinho over Jesse Lingard
17 years since Reese Witherspoon’s career-defining role in Legally Blonde the movie, the musical of the blockbuster chick-flick continues to delight audiences. Returning to Manchester on the final week of the latest UK tour, the musical brings to life the story of sorority girl Elle Woods who vows to win back her snobby boyfriend Warner Huntington III by winning a place at Harvard Law School and proving she can be his Jackie as much as his Marilyn. But, of course, what Elle really finds along the way is her own self-worth and that she’s so much more than the ditzy blonde that people misconstrue her to be. The high-pitched screech of opening number Omigod You Guys somewhat sets the tone for this show which, rather like a big ball of sugary candyfloss, envelopes you with its sickly sweetness. What gives it a bit more substance is the simply stunning production values, which make the show a razzle-dazzle feast for the eyes with clever set design, costumes and sharply … [Read more...] about Review: Legally Blonde at Palace Theatre Manchester
Police investigating the murders of Charlie and Gayle Anderson have confirmed detectives are looking into whether they were the victims of an $8m Jamaican dollar fraud prior to their deaths. The grandparents, 74 and 71, who had been married for more than half a century, were found dead at their home in Portland on Saturday afternoon. They retired to the country around a year ago after decades living in Manchester. On Tuesday morning, the Jamaican Constabulary said a man had been taken into custody as a ‘person of interest’. He is still being quizzed by detectives. Police are investigating whether Mr and Mrs Anderson were the victims of an $8m Jamaican dollar (around £46,000) fraud - and whether that is linked to their deaths. A spokeswoman for the force told the M.E.N. police are dealing with the murder and fraud cases ‘simultaneously’. She said Mrs Anderson had burns and a ‘serious wound’, but could not elaborate - or comment on Mr … [Read more...] about Jamaica murder: Were Manchester couple victims of fraud before deaths?
