Nemanja Matic and David de Gea are expected to link up with the Manchester United squad on their pre-season tour. The pair suffered World Cup eliminations before the quarter-final stage and have embarked on a three-week holiday but are due to link up with their teammates in the United States. De Gea was pilloried by the Spanish media after he failed to save any of Russia's four penalties in Spain's last 16 shootout defeat to the host nation on July 1. The 27-year-old is already holidaying in Florida and De Gea could fly to the West Coast in time for United's International Champions Cup clash with AC Milan in Carson City on July 25. Serbia were ejected at the group stage following a 2-0 defeat to Brazil on June 27, which pleased United manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese said before the tournament he hoped Serbia would go out as soon as possible so Matic could embark on a holiday. De Gea and Matic started the joint-highest number of matches last season for United and club sources … [Read more...] about Two Manchester United World Cup players to join pre-season tour

One of many problems for Jose Mourinho is that Saturday’s defeat wasn’t just a final, but a final say on the season. The FA Cup did have genuine modern meaning in that regard. It ended up being something of a referendum on Manchester United’s campaign. Now, all of the supposed progress from finishing in second place feels like it has evaporated. What will instead remain in the memory from 2017-18 is a mostly turgid display at Wembley, with that a fair reflection of how they have mostly performed. Romelu Lukaku has lost his battle to make the starting line-up for Manchester United's FA Cup final clash with Chelsea. Marcus Rashford will start as the Reds main striker at Wembley today after Lukaku failed to convince manager Jose Mourinho in a late fitness test. The Belgian striker, who has scored 28 goals in all competitions for United this season, injured his ankle against Arsenal last month and missed the last three Premier League games. Mourinho said he would give him until the last possible moment to prove his fitness when he addressed the media on Friday. The rest of the starting line-up is the same as the one which United fielded to beat Tottenham in the semi-final. Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial have travelled with the Manchester United squad to London ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final. Lukaku has not played since he suffered an ankle injury in the Premier League win over Arsenal on April 29 and he has spent the majority of his recovery at the Move to Cure centre in Antwerp, Belgium. The 25-year-old returned to United's Carrington training complex on Tuesday and is in contention to return against former club Chelsea this weekend after he travelled down to London with teammates on Wednesday afternoon. Martial was also among the travelling squad which took the train down from Stockport Station after he sat out the Watford win with a knee injury. "He's injured," Mourinho said of Martial on Sunday. "He was injured, he was injured Friday training session, yesterday couldn't train. He had treatment in the morning at the training round and he stayed away.
