Exclusive: Chelsea interested in Raheem Sterling with Manchester City exit possible
Europe’s top clubs believe Raheem Sterling is ready to leave Manchester City this summer, with Chelsea among those weighing up a bid. Sterling has one year remaining on his City contract and, although the England international is yet to indicate his intention over his future, there is a growing feeling among top clubs that he will consider a move away. That has already attracted interest from around Europe, with Chelsea understood to be the English club displaying the greatest interest so far and Real Madrid keeping an interested eye on the situation. Barcelona also retain an interest having enquired about Sterling last summer and he is thought to be one of a number of alternative options Bayern Munich have in mind in the event they fail to get a deal for Liverpool’s Sadio Mane over the line . Sterling admitted last October that he could be forced to leave City if his playing time did not improve and put talks over his future on hold until the end of the season to see if … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Chelsea interested in Raheem Sterling with Manchester City exit possible
Manchester City poised to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in £42m deal
Manchester City are on the verge of securing a £42 million deal for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips . Premier League champions City thrashed out an agreement with Leeds on Friday over a transfer which could rise to £45 million after instalments, with midfielder Darko Gyabi moving to Elland Road in a separate deal. Pep Guardiola has been determined to sign Phillips this summer and is making the England international his second addition ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, after the £51m capture of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund . Phillips leaves Leeds after a 12-year association , making his senior debut for his hometown club in 2015. He has played a huge role in the club's recent history, captaining them as they returned to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa and then emerging as one of the best defensive midfielders in the country. Manchester United and Aston Villa have also shown interest in the 26-year-old in recent years, but City have moved ruthlessly … [Read more...] about Manchester City poised to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in £42m deal
Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips pursuit could be aided by £200m player sales
Manchester City could raise more than £200 million through sales this year as the Premier League champions shake up their squad in the pursuit of more silverware. City have signed forwards Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez for a combined £65m and are now expected to pursue a move for the £60m rated Leeds midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, as a replacement for the departed Fernandinho. They are also interested in Marc Cucurella , although Brighton are thought to want around £50m for the left back. It is shaping up to be another hefty outlay by City as manager Pep Guardiola eyes a fifth Premier League title in six seasons and Champions League glory but the club could yet finish the summer by making a healthy profit in the transfer window. City swelled their coffers in January by selling Spain forward Ferran Torres to Barcelona for a fee that could rise to £55m and stand to make a lot more from sales over the next two and a half months. Gabriel Jesus is expected to leave, with … [Read more...] about Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips pursuit could be aided by £200m player sales
Manchester City considering £30m move for Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella
Manchester City are closely monitoring Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella. The 23-year-old joined Brighton last summer and has hugely impressed City manager Pep Guardiola. He scored his first Premier League goal earlier this month in the 4-0 rout of Manchester United at the Amex Stadium. Brighton accept that the Spain international – he has played once for his country so far - will leave the club sooner rather than later but are hoping to hold onto Cucurella for at least one more season. A fee of £30million has been mooted for the attacking defender who joined Brighton from Getafe for £15.4million. The left-back position has been problematic for City with Benjamin Mendy unavailable after being suspended as he awaits trial on rape charges. Joao Cancelo has played at left-back as has Oleksandr Zinchenko but Guardiola is looking for a player more comfortable in that position and Cucurella, who came through the Barcelona academy and is well-known to the City manager … [Read more...] about Manchester City considering £30m move for Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella
Erling Haaland reveals why he chose ‘perfect’ Manchester City as he completes blockbuster transfer
Erling Haaland believes he has joined the “perfect” club to realise his lofty ambitions after formally completing his £51 million move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund. City announced on Monday that Haaland had signed a five-year contract that will tie him to the Premier League champions until June 2027. One of the most exciting young players in the world , Haaland’s capture is a significant coup for City as they bid to cement their domestic dominance and finally win the Champions League and the 21-year-old striker says he cannot wait to get started. “This is a proud day for me and my family,” said Haaland, the son of former City midfielder Alfe-Inge Haaland. “I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.” Haaland – who scored 86 goals in 89 games for Dortmund and took his tally for Norway to 20 goals in … [Read more...] about Erling Haaland reveals why he chose ‘perfect’ Manchester City as he completes blockbuster transfer
Exclusive interview: ‘When Mesut Ozil quits football he will become a professional gamer’
An interview with Mesut Ozil’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut is certainly entertaining. He breezes through the plot of the novel he has written, ‘Deadline’, about nepotism in football – name-checking the influence of the Fergusons at Manchester United and the Rummenigges and Hoenesses at Bayern Munich. Sogut then states how his star client Ozil – who he calls the “Muhammad Ali of football” – was worth every penny of the £350,000-a-week he earned at Arsenal before revealing the midfielder is likely to become an esports player, a professional video-gamer, when his football career ends. “He will go more into esports, play himself and maybe become an esports athlete,” he says of the 33-year-old. Really? “He’s really good, to be honest, at Fortnite and I think one day I wouldn’t be surprised if he is competing,” Sogut says. “He owns a team – M10 Esports – and he has players. He has a gaming house in Germany. He has football, like Fifa, and Fortnite.” It is a statement that will surely grate … [Read more...] about Exclusive interview: ‘When Mesut Ozil quits football he will become a professional gamer’
Manchester United told Antony and Lisandro Martinez will cost £130m by Ajax
Manchester United will be told they have to pay around £130 million if Erik ten Hag wants to sign Antony and Lisandro Martinez from his former club Ajax. The duo have emerged as targets for United, who have still to complete their first summer signing, despite edging closer to the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona . Brazilian winger Antony and Argentine centre-half Martinez also feature on their former manager’s wish list although, unlike Barcelona, the Dutch club are under no pressure to sell either player. Ajax value Antony, 22, at £70-80 million, and Martinez, 24, at £45-50 million. Martinez is also a target for Arsenal , who appear to be in a stronger position than United, given that Ten Hag does not have an inexhaustible amount of money to spend on his under-performing squad in this window. But, while Barcelona have financial limitations and a rebuild under way themselves, Ajax have no such issues and have made it clear in talks with Ten Hag, and United … [Read more...] about Manchester United told Antony and Lisandro Martinez will cost £130m by Ajax
