‘I went back to the north with my tail between my legs’
By Dougal Shaw Published 30 March Share close Share page Copy link About sharing "I don't think brands today have to be political, I think they have to be clear on their purpose," says Chris Kay, CEO of advertising firm, Saatchi & Saatchi. And by purpose, Mr Kay means taking a position on the values they want to act on and defend - those could include anything from gender equality to environmental responsibility. Consumer companies such as clothes shops or fast-food chains, are finding themselves under increasing pressure to take a public stance on issues their customers care about, from gender identity politics, to racial justice and the war in Ukraine. It's a tricky balancing act and recently, companies such as Coca-Cola, Decathlon and McDonald's, among others, faced negative hashtag campaigns against them online, and threats of boycotts , for continuing to do business in … [Read more...] about ‘I went back to the north with my tail between my legs’

How Chelsea could line up after Todd Boehly’s first summer with hefty transfer budget
Following government approval of Todd Boehly's £4.25billion takeover, Chelsea have seemingly ended their mammoth search for a new owner. Due to sanctions placed on current holder Roman Abramovich , as part of a nationwide crackdown on Russian oligarchs, the Blues have been unable to operate as normal. Fans buying match tickets, the renewal of player contracts and bizarrely even purchases in the club shop have all been prohibited - but Boehly's takeover brings renewed hope around Stamford Bridge. The consortium led by the LA Dodgers' co-owner, 48, has passed the Premier League 's owners' and directors' test and Boehly is reportedly ready to equip Thomas Tuchel with a £200m transfer war chest. With sanctions lifted and the club back in business, Daily Star Sport examine how Chelsea could line up after the American's first summer window... Beth Mead says “the moment we settle is the moment the women’s game plateaus again”
Beth Mead is all smiles as she joins us on a Zoom call from the National Football Museum in Manchester. The Arsenal forward has good reason to be happy. Despite the Gunners missing out on the Women’s Super League title by a single point, it has been a standout campaign for Mead on a personal level. In her fifth year with the north Londoners, the 27-year-old has scored a seasonal best 11 goals in the WSL, making her the division's third-top scorer behind only Chelsea ace Sam Kerr and Arsenal teammate Vivianne Miedema. Throw in her eight assists – a joint-league high – and she has 19 goal involvements for the season, again, second only to Kerr and Miedema. It has been a standout year for Mead at international level, too. With 12 goals in her last 11 appearances for England – including hat-tricks against Northern Ireland, Latvia and North Macedonia – she could hardly be in better form ahead of Euro 2022 on home soil. But despite all of that, and Mead’s obvious excitement for … [Read more...] about Beth Mead says “the moment we settle is the moment the women’s game plateaus again”
10 Englishmen who won trophies abroad as Fikayo Tomori stars in AC Milan title win
When Gareth Southgate named Fikayo Tomori in his latest England squad earlier this week no one batted an eyelid - something almost no one would have predicted when he left Chelsea 16 months ago. The 23-year-old has been a near ever-present in AC Milan's side this season and has played a major role in securing the club's first Serie A title in 11 years. Despite playing 22 times for the Blues during his breakout campaign under Frank Lampard , Tomori found his path blocked following the arrival of Thiago Silva and dropped to the bench, and by January he was headed for pastures new, with Milan nabbing him on loan and at the end of the season they happily activated his £25 million buy option. Fast-forward a year and Tomori is bona fide hero in Milan with fans particularly fond of the way he learned the language in a matter of months, and the club's Scudetto victory sees the defender join an esteemed list of English stars who have won trophies abroad. Here, Daily Star … [Read more...] about 10 Englishmen who won trophies abroad as Fikayo Tomori stars in AC Milan title win
Arsenal’s £19m target Adam Hlozek has already been approved by Tomas Rosicky
Arsenal target Adam Hlozek has already received a seal of approval from ex-Gunners midfielder Tomas Rosicky ahead of the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to sign at least one new striker this summer in order to compensate for the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah could also leave when their contracts expire at the end of June. The Gunners have wasted little time and have already opened talks to sign Manchester City ’s Gabriel Jesus and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. But reports are claiming that Sparta Prague forward Hlozek is also on Arsenal’s radar as a cheaper option this summer. The 19-year-old’s rise in Czech football has been quick since he made his debut for Sparta at the age of 16, scoring 40 goals in 131 appearances. Hlozek, who has already made 12 senior appearances for the Czech Republic, is capable of playing in multiple positions across the front line, is strong in the air … [Read more...] about Arsenal’s £19m target Adam Hlozek has already been approved by Tomas Rosicky
