Manchester City take on Chelsea on Sunday in the Community Shield at Wembley, the traditional season-opener between the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners. AFP looks at some of the talking points ahead of the game. Will Sarri put down roots at Chelsea? Maurizio Sarri, 59, has not had long to prepare for the new season -- joining Chelsea midway through July after Antonio Conte was finally sacked following a turbulent period at the helm. The former Napoli manager likes to play attractive, attacking football and City are likely to respond in kind, which should make for an exciting match in the stifling summer heat. But Sarri will be aware that not even trophies have been enough to save the jobs of previous incumbents at Stamford Bridge, with Conte dismissed after winning the FA Cup. Despite the pressure Sarri, who has never won silverware, is thinking about the long term. "It depends on the club. (If) I want to stay here for 10 years, then I have to win," he said. "Then it … [Read more...] about Community Shield: 5 talking points ahead of Man City v Chelsea clash

Manchester City and Chelsea will face each other at Wembley Stadium in the Community Shield on August 5. In what is traditionally referred to as the season's "curtain-raiser", tickets are available through both clubs as well as through Club Wembley. If you're unable to get tickets through any of these avenues, your only real chance of getting your hands on them is through resale sites like LiveFootballTickets and Viagogo where prices are set at the seller's discretion. Both clubs have won four Community Shields in their history with Chelsea appearing in 12 finals and City in 10. Despite this being the eighth Community Shield Chelsea have participated in since 2005, the Blues have not won in their previous four finals. They were last victorious after a penalty shoot-out victory over Manchester United in 2009. Meanwhile, Manchester City, having won the league at a canter last season finishing up on a record-breaking 100 points, will be appearing in their first final since their 3-0 … [Read more...] about When do FA Community Shield tickets for Man City v Chelsea go on sale?

Manchester City must do something only two teams have done before them if they are to progress in the Champions League this week – and halt a run of heartaches suffered by Pep Guardiola’s domestically dominant teams in Europe. While they may have one hand on the Premier League title, despite a weekend derby defeat by Manchester United delaying the celebrations, City are on the brink of exiting Europe after being hammered 3-0 at Liverpool in the first leg of their quarter-final. Barcelona’s remarkable 6-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain to overturn a 4-0 deficit in last season’s competition marked only the second time in Champions League history that any team had progressed after losing by three goals in the first leg. Deportivo La Coruna are the only other side to have pulled it off, having overturned a 4-1 first-leg loss at AC Milan with a 4-0 home win a fortnight later in 2004. Few teams have a manager with as much Champions League pedigree to turn to as City … [Read more...] about Manchester City v Liverpool: Is Pep Guardiola’s domestic dominance hurting his Champions League chances?
