They are now 12 points ahead of United although the more worrying statistic for Jose Mourinho is that his team trail fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by seven points. City are also 32 – 32 – goals better off than United on goal difference and that margin would have been greater had they converted their opportunities. Liverpool have been drawn to face Chelsea at Anfield in the third round of the EFL Cup. Jurgen Klopp’s side were handed a heavyweight tie in Thursday’s draw, the record eight-time winners coming up against a team who have lifted the trophy on five occasions. The two sides last met in this competition in 2015, when Chelsea emerged victorious from a two-legged semi-final.
