Juventus vs Manchester UnitedUefa Champions League 2018/19 Cristiano Ronaldo will get another chance to score against his former club as Juventus and Manchester United face off in Turin tonight. Juve star Ronaldo could not find the net on his Old Trafford return in matchday 3, but Paulo Dybala's goal handed the Italian champions a richly deserved 1-0 victory in Manchester to take control of Group H. With Juve almost certain to top the group, Jose Mourinho knows United - second in the table with four points (two ahead of Valencia) - are playing for the runners-up spot. Although a defeat could see the Red Devils slip out of the qualification spots with two games to play, United still have a last-16 spot in their hands at this point. Marcus Rashford has not been named in United's Champions League squad because he still qualifies for List B. United submitted their 25-man List A squad for the group stages on Monday and they had to include at least two goalkeepers and eight locally trained players. Jose Mourinho also had to submit a List B of players born on January, 1997 or after and that is why Rashford was not named in the A List as he is only 20 years of age. UEFA rules state: 'A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 1997 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday. Players aged 16 may be registered if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years. 'Clubs are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list must be submitted by no later than 24:00CET the day before a match.' Manchester United's fixture dates for the 2018/19 Champions League campaign have been confirmed. Jose Mourinho and his side will face Juventus, Valencia and Young Boys in Group H of this year's competition. United kick off their Champions League campaign with a trip to Switzerland on 19 September, with the game sandwiched in between trips to face Watford and Wolves in the Premier League. The team also face a tricky juggling act when they face group favourites Juventus, with the home leg on 23 October just three days after a trip to face Chelsea in the league. United's away trip to the Juventus Stadium is also awkwardly timed, with the fixture due to take place just four days prior to the first Manchester derby of the season. It doesn't get any easier for Mourinho and his side, with their final group game away against Valencia coming just three days before an away trip to face Liverpool in the league. The headline tie will see Ronaldo return to Old Trafford for only the second time since leaving for Real Madrid in 2009, where the Portuguese star scored in both legs of the round of 16 tie. The Reds, who were knocked out by Sevilla at the same stage last season, have won five of their 12 competitive games against Juventus, the last of which came in the round of 16 in 2003. The Old Trafford outfit have beaten Valencia twice in eight meetings and last faced the La Liga side in the group stages of the 2010/11 season. Young Boys will present a new challenge for Jose Mourinho's side, with United having never faced the Swiss outfit in a competitive fixture before. Mourinho has won the Champions League on two occasions as a manager, in 2004 and 2010 with Porto and Chelsea respectively. The first matchday of this season’s Champions League will … [Read more...] about Man Utd Champions League group revealed
Liverpool's 2-1 win over Manchester City didn't just put them through to the semi-finals of the Champions League, it also wrote them into the history books. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino overturned Gabriel Jesus' early opener to seal a 2-1 victory. The pair's goals took Liverpool's tally to 33 in the Champions League this season, six more than the already eliminated Paris Saint-Germain. The number also breaks the record for most goals scored in a single campaign - previously set by Manchester United. The Red Devils scored 32 in the 2002/03 season, when they were knocked out in the Champions League by Real Madrid at the quarter-final stage. Liverpool have also broken United's tally in four less outings, doing so in 10 appearances. Jurgen Klopp's side will now have at least two more games to further their record.
