A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a woman 35 years ago. Mary McLaughlin, 58, was last seen alive on 26 September 1984 when she left a bar in the Hyndland area of Glasgow after a night out.Her body was found in her home in Crathie Court on Laurel Street in Partick six days later. Police said a 58-year-old man was due to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.Despite extensive inquiries at the time no one was arrested or charged in connection with the death of Mrs McLaughlin.'New information'However, a new investigation was launched by detectives from Police Scotland's Homicide Governance Review team. Salvation Army warns of winter deaths as homeless numbers rise
Hundreds of homeless people will die over the winter, the Salvation Army warned on Sunday as it opens its night shelters across the country. The charity is calling for urgent investment in support services to prevent people falling into what it calls “the rough sleeping trap” following years of rising demand for places in its shelters. “We will always provide shelter for those forced to sleep rough, especially during winter, but for many a temporary safe space and a hot meal are not enough to save them,” said Mitch Menagh, the charity’s director of homelessness services. “Those people we help invariably have complex, multiple needs including relationship breakdown, childhood trauma, alcohol dependency and drug abuse. A Chinese young man has reportedly been arrested after trying to smuggle 2.2 pounds of gold into Nepal by hiding the metal in his rectum. Security staff at an airport in Kathmandu nabbed the 22-year-old after noticing him behaving suspiciously and walking in a peculiar way, it is said. The suspect, named Sa Luitui, had put the gold, worth around £36,100, inside a condom. Part of the birth control device was left outside his body so he could pull out the gold upon reaching his destination, according to local media. Police hunt sinister ‘PIG MAN’ in ‘creepy’ mask approaching children outside primary and secondary school – forcing staff to warn parents
Police are hunting a yob who has been terrifying young children by accosting them outside school while wearing a sinister-looking pig mask. Pupils have been left too frightened to walk to class after the creepy suspect approached them in the street in the Barnards Green area of Malvern, Worcs. There have been reports of him targeting kids at two separate schools in the area while donning the porcine disguise and jumping out on front of pupils. The Chase School Malvern, a secondary school with 1,500 pupils, has written to parents warning them about the man and urging them to report any incidents to police.
