Teacher says parents ‘need to be stopped’ after spotting ‘unfortunate’ name on locker

· April 10, 2021 ·

Baby names can be a pretty divisive topic, with some names proving popular and others not so much. And according to a number of people online, there are some names that just shouldn't be allowed. A recent trend on social media saw TikTok users revealing the most "unfortunate" names they'd ever heard. From this we saw how a nurse had called for a patient named Liam, only to be told by his mother that it was pronounced "Yum", because it was short for William. Umm... Ok?! And now a teacher has decided to jump on the bandwagon and share a few of the names of students at her school. In a video on TikTok, a teacher named Madison who posts under @lucky_mtz11, filmed some of the name labels on lockers. She captioned her post writing: "Some of y'all parents need to be stopped. #WaitForIt #Comedy #WhoNamedYou #Laugh #HowDoYouEvenDoThat." The camera first zooms in on the name Astryd, spelt with a 'Y' instead of an 'I'. It then pans along the lockers, coming to a … [Read more...] about Teacher says parents ‘need to be stopped’ after spotting ‘unfortunate’ name on locker

Manchester City reach FA Cup semi-finals as Kevin De Bruyne inspires win over Everton

· March 20, 2021 ·

T here must be a way of stopping Pep Guardiola’s great winning-machine but no-one quite knows how yet - not even a manager of Carlo Ancelotti’s calibre whose side tried to win this FA Cup tie without the ball only to find themselves beaten, like all the others. These are times this season when it can feel like the rest of English football exists only as a backdrop for the Guardiola cavalcade, threshing its way through the games and the opponents and the four competitions. Ancelotti is a manager who occupies the same stratosphere as his City counterpart – a fellow multiple Champions League winner, a veteran of some of Europe’s biggest clubs – but even he had no clearer strategy than to cede permission and hope for the best. It was not pretty but there was an appealing stubbornness about Everton as they hurtled towards 90 minutes and the interesting question of what Guardiola’s team might be like in the energy-sapping finale of extra-time. The home team had defended and chased, they … [Read more...] about Manchester City reach FA Cup semi-finals as Kevin De Bruyne inspires win over Everton

Mozambique: Stark pictures tell horrifying tale of three days under terrorist fire

· April 10, 2021 ·

Pictures shared with Sky News, taken by survivors of the Palma terror attack in Mozambique, give a graphic illustration of a terrifying three days under fire, surrounded by insurgents. Nearly 200 people - including foreign workers - took refuge in one of the town's hotels. But survivors have told Sky News how they fled for their lives because they felt they'd been abandoned and no one was coming to rescue them. One South African contractor spoke of almost constant shooting and shelling during the three days they were trapped inside the Amarula Lodge in Palma. Wesley Nel filmed on his mobile phone throughout and his footage shows those pinned down in the Lodge - including his brother Adrian and father Greg - lying on the floor of the hotel's upstairs restaurant as a volley of gunfire is heard. Advertisement "The gunfire just didn't stop," Mr Nel said. "The mortars - you're talking about 100's of mortars going off… probably 40 to 50 … [Read more...] about Mozambique: Stark pictures tell horrifying tale of three days under terrorist fire

Benin’s democracy hangs in the balance on election weekend

· January 10, 2021 ·

Election fever has hit Benin. In the economic capital, Cotonou, more and more posters advertising the April 11 presidential election appear daily. One image, though, dominates: that of the current president, Patrice Talon. Against a blue background, he and running mate Mariam Chabi Talata are visible to every one of Cotonou's 800,000 residents. Like the United States, the West African country nominates pairs to run for the presidency, and if Talon is reelected, Chabi Talata will be vice president. "We have come a long way, we will go far" is the pitch by Talon and his running mate For Flora Agoudavi, this is a foregone conclusion. She and hundreds of other supporters have come to a campaign rally in front of the congress buildings on the coastal road Boulevarde de la Marina. They wave flags bearing their candidate's face, and wait patiently for his address. "When the president kicks off his campaign, I have to be there," she said. For Talon's next term, Agoudavi hopes … [Read more...] about Benin’s democracy hangs in the balance on election weekend

How to know when you’ve had too much of a good thing – from water to sunscreen

· April 10, 2021 ·

Many of us worry we’re not drinking enough water, exercising enough or getting enough vitamins but sometimes we can overdo it. Natasha Holt asks the experts how to know when you’ve gone too far. Salad “Salad leaves are an excellent low-calorie food. That said, you can’t get by on the green stuff alone,” says Sophie Medlin, dietitian and director atcitydietitians.co.uk. “Salad cannot provide us with all the nutrients we need to live healthily, such as protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Too much can also disrupt digestion and, in extreme cases, make it harder to absorb other important nutrients such as iron. “Make sure you’re keeping your salads balanced by adding things like avocado, olive oil or nuts and seeds and some protein such as chicken, fish, eggs or tofu. "If salad is making up more than 50 per cent of your diet it’s time to rethink.” Water The idea that we need to be drinking eight glasses of water a day has led to many of us thinking you can’t get … [Read more...] about How to know when you’ve had too much of a good thing – from water to sunscreen
