On this day: Adolf Hitler makes his first grab for power in the Beer Hall Putsch

· November 9, 2016 ·

T oday is the anniversary of Hitler’s failed 1923 “Beer Hall Putsch”. Large tankards of beer and subtlety of thought rarely go together. One said they had been asked to ditch their clothes while getting the job done, another said they had been caught up in a police raid, and many shared the difficulties of working with pets as spectators. Plenty revealed they had been paid for trivial jobs which included removing pencil marks from a gate and turning on a kitchen tap. Staggeringly it has been nearly 25 years since The Upper Hand came to an end. Starting in May 1990, the much-loved ITV sitcom ran for seven series until the final episode aired in October 1996. Adapted from American sitcom Who's The Boss?, The Upper Hand focused on affluent single mum Caroline Wheately trying to raise her son. Along with the help of her mother Laura West, Caroline employed a live-in housekeeper named Charlie Burrows to help get her life back on track. For years we were desperate to see whether Caroline and Charlie would get together amid their "will-they-won't-they" relationship until they finally got married. There were plans to end the show after they wed - but bosses wrote a final series focused on their life as husband and wife. Once filming stopped on the comedy classic, the cast remained on our screens on other … [Read more...] about Where The Upper Hand cast are now – EastEnders favourite and tragic Bond girl death

Lee Mack reveals that after taking cocaine for first time he became obsessed with cleaning a kitchen

· April 16, 2021 ·

IT sounds like a madcap scene from Mrs Brown’s Boys. Comic Lee Mack has revealed that the first time he experimented with drugs — taking cocaine at his best friend’s stag do — he became obsessed with cleaning a kitchen, even putting on an apron and Marigolds. Talking about the class-A drug, Lee said: “I’d never done that in my life and neither had my best mate. And we said, ‘Shall we just do it?’ “And we did it and I thought, ‘This isn’t having any effect on me whatsoever’. “So an hour later I did it again. “Then cut to about three hours later, I suddenly turn into what can only be described as a mother figure. “And they’re all in the living room, there’s music blasting and they are all dancing around, booze everywhere, and I get it into my head I’m going to cook for everybody. "So I start making pizzas that we’ve got frozen and I start putting them in the oven. And I think, ‘Ooh, this oven’s a bit dirty. I know what — I’ll give it a bit of a clean’.” The … [Read more...] about Lee Mack reveals that after taking cocaine for first time he became obsessed with cleaning a kitchen
