OWNERS of certain Apple and Samsung 4G phones could each claim up to £30 compensation for having been overcharged. Some 29 million customers who bought in the past five years may be owed a total of around £480million by US tech giant Qualcomm , which makes chips for the handsets. Consumer group Which? says Qualcomm inflated the cost of parts it charged to phone makers, who then passed this on to shoppers. Which? now plans to take Qualcomm to court if it does not do the right thing and cough up. Damages are being sought for all affected Apple and Samsung phones bought since October 1, 2015. Payouts could range from £5 to £30, with an average of around £17. Which? chief executive Anabel Hoult said: “We believe Qualcomm’s practices are anti-competitive and have so far taken around £480million from UK consumers’ pockets. This needs to stop. “If Qualcomm has abused its market power it must be held to account. “Without Which? bringing this claim on behalf of … [Read more...] about Some Apple & Samsung customers may be owed money — find out if you’re affected

Don’t be a mug, make these tasty ‘cup’ cake recipes for less
QUICK and easy mug cakes are the latest lockdown trend across social media – and I can see why. Far quicker — and cheaper — than baking an actual cake in the oven, they are the perfect savvy snack when you crave a sweet treat. Use these tips to make your own “cup” cake for less cash... GO BANANAS: Grab one ripe banana and 80g of Creative Nature banana bread mix, £2.99 at Tesco, rather than £3.99 at creativenaturesuperfoods.co.uk . Mash the banana with a little butter or margarine before combining with the bread mix and a dash of water. Microwave for 30 seconds on high before leaving to stand for 30 seconds. Repeat and if it looks like it needs a little longer, blast in ten-second bursts until the inside of your mug cake develops a nice bouncy texture. SAVING: £1 PROTEIN HIT: I love the protein mug cake mix from theproteinworks.com. You can currently grab a bag for £14.38, down from £15.99. Mix a scoop with water and microwave for 60 seconds. … [Read more...] about Don’t be a mug, make these tasty ‘cup’ cake recipes for less
Amazon set to open first checkout-free physical stores in the UK ‘this week’
AMAZON is set to open its first physical stores in the UK - and they won't have any checkouts. The online retailer will open the doors to its Amazon Go shops 'this week', after success in the US. The first shop will be located in Ealing in West London, the Mail on Sunday reports. There are no checkouts at Amazon Go stores, instead technology tracks the items you put in your basket. You're charged automatically when you leave via the Amazon Go app. The concept first launched in the US in 2018 and it was first reported last year that the shopping giant was eyeing as many as 30 locations in the UK for bricks and mortar stores . According to the newspaper report, staff are preparing to open the shop this week and there are coverings hiding the Amazon branded store front. The shops use "Just Walk Out" technology which means customers can avoid queueing. Shoppers must scan the supermarket's app on the gated turnstile when entering the stores. Cameras monitor … [Read more...] about Amazon set to open first checkout-free physical stores in the UK ‘this week’
GameStop share price explained: 6 things you need to know as stocks rise again
GAMESTOP shares more than doubled yesterday afternoon, echoing the frenzy that saw the stock soar 700% last month after it was targeted by an army of amateur traders. A trading frenzy surrounded the stock in late January, causing professional hedge funds to lose billions of dollars and helping some amateur traders make some serious cash out of the surge. Reddit users caused havoc on Wall Street in January after buying up shares in struggling retail businesses that hedge fund investors had bet against. Funds such as Melvin Capital and Point72 made heavy losses as a result, the NY Post reported. GameStop shares surged 700% at the end of January to $347 but have declined sharply since, hitting $44.97 earlier this week as the Reddit army phenomenon seemed to be winding down. That was until yesterday afternoon when the stock more than doubled in value to $91.71. The initial rise was attributed to the Reddit craze but analysts have struggled to find a clear reason … [Read more...] about GameStop share price explained: 6 things you need to know as stocks rise again
Self-assessment tax payers have just three days left to avoid £100 late fine
SELF-assessment tax payers have until midnight on Sunday to file their return and avoid a £100 fine. The deadline to submit tax returns for 2019/20 was January 31 but HMRC waived the late payment charge so long as they are submitted by February 28. Delaying the fines was aimed at helping those who were struggling to meet the deadline due to the impact of the third national lockdown. But tax payers will still have been charged interest worth 2.6% of the outstanding amount every day until the payment is made from February 1. According to HMRC, nearly two million people missed the end of January deadline this year. Tax returns will need to be filed online now though as those returned by post or via the bank will still incur the fee. How do I fill out the tax return? Here's what you need to know: BEFORE you can complete and submit your tax return, you'll need to have a unique taxpayer reference (UTR) and activation code from HMRC. This can take a while … [Read more...] about Self-assessment tax payers have just three days left to avoid £100 late fine
