Barry Hearn says it is inevitable that some of the major tournaments in the darts calendar will move away from the UK in the future as the PDC’s global expansion of the sport continues. The bulk of the majors take place in England, including the World Grand Prix which has recently moved to Leicester, first due to the pandemic and then because its traditional venue, Dublin’s Citywest Convention Centre, is housing Ukrainian refugees. The PDC have ambitious plans for the sport, which is looking to gain a foothold in America and held the US Darts Masters at New York’s Madison Square Garden as part of the World Series in June. The objective of the invitational World Series is to grow the game worldwide, with its next three events taking place in Australia and New Zealand this month. Pfizer, French firm starting testing of major Lyme disease vaccine
Duncansville, Pa. — Researchers are seeking thousands of volunteers in the U.S. and Europe to test the first potential vaccine against Lyme disease in 20 years -- in hopes of better fighting the tick-borne threat. Lyme is a growing problem , with cases rising and warming weather helping ticks expand their habitat. While a vaccine for dogs has long been available, the only Lyme vaccine for humans was pulled off the U.S. market in 2002 from lack of demand, leaving people to rely on bug spray and tick checks. Now Pfizer and French biotech Valneva are aiming to avoid previous pitfalls in developing a new vaccine to protect both adults and kids as young as 5 from the most common Lyme strains on two continents. "There wasn't such a recognition, I think, of the severity of Lyme disease" and how many people it affects the last time around, Pfizer vaccine chief Annaliesa Anderson told The Associated Press. Robert Terwilliger, an avid hunter and hiker, was first in line Friday when … [Read more...] about Pfizer, French firm starting testing of major Lyme disease vaccine
Amid the coalition crisis, SaS submits a major constitutional bill
Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), a party that left the coalition amid a political crisis in early summer, has submitted a constitutional bill on adequate financial security in old age to the parliament. The government promised to introduce the constitutional law that would concern the pension system and basic rules for its management in its programme declaration when it took power in 2020. The SaS and experts began to work on the bill last year, but the party curbed its efforts earlier this year following the promises of its then coalition partners, that the parliament would pass similar basic rules in the first reading together with a so-called parental pension before the summer. More info Mr Johnson is hoping to secure a Brexit deal before the EU Summit begins tomorrow, so he can avoid evoking the Benn Act and asking the EU for another extension. Negotiations hang on the edge of a knife – but Britain's future relationship with Brussels has been up for debate since former Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50 – the 250-word clause in the 2007 Lisbon Treaty explaining how an EU country can leave the union unilaterally – in March 2017. Majority of babies born in England and Wales in 2021 were out of wedlock, new statistics reveal
For the first time since records began, more babies were born out of wedlock in England and Wales in 2021. New statistics reveal the number born to mothers who were unmarried or not in a civil partnership has overtaken the number being born to mothers in such relationships. However, the count coincided with the COVID-19 lockdown, when weddings and civil partnership ceremonies were not allowed. There were 624,828 live births registered in England and Wales in 2021, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said. This includes 320,713 live births to women who were not married or in a civil partnership when they delivered - 51.3% of the total - compared to 304,115 live births to parents who were married or civilly partnered. Advertisement It is the first time since counting such statistics began in 1845. Internet blasts woman ‘obsessed’ with her neighbor’s daily sleeping routine
The internet has backed a woman who is fed up with her neighbor being "obsessed" with her, looking through her bedroom window, criticizing her for waking up too late in the morning. In a post shared on Mumsnet last Sunday, the woman, who goes by the username Mississipi71, explained that since she only has blinds on her window and no curtains, her neighbor is able to see what times she wakes up and goes to bed, and doesn't seem too pleased. "I overheard my neighbor talking about what time I get up in the day," she said in her post, adding that she "even heard her saying "it is 11.30 am now, what time did she get up 11.15?" She explained that because of the side effects from anxiety medicines that takes she can't go into a deep sleep and never really has a full night's sleep, but since she's retired and has no children, what time she wakes up is only "down to [her]." She added: "It wasn't just one comment. She has alluded to it several times. Once when she talked about … [Read more...] about Internet blasts woman ‘obsessed’ with her neighbor’s daily sleeping routine
