I was lying on my friend Sophie’s pink-carpeted bedroom floor, watching MTV and swigging Malibu from the bottle we’d stolen from her parents’ drinks cupboard. We were 13 and instantly captivated. It may not have been the moon landings or JFK getting shot, but it was era-defining for me. Watching the Framing Britney Spears documentary recently, I felt as queasy as I did sipping that neat Malibu. The fact that her father still has control over nearly every aspect of her life and finances would be shocking enough. But it’s the casual misogyny that is really sobering. MARTIN Lewis is urging eligible households to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers amid rumours the scheme could be pulled. The Green Homes Grant initiative gives families money to spend on energy-saving measures around their home, such as insulation or a better boiler. The government says households could save more than £200 annually on energy bills thanks to the scheme. But speaking during his Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV last night, Martin said rumours are spreading that the project could close in March. The government has yet to officially make an announcement on whether these reports are true. The Green Homes Grant scheme has already been plagued with controversy, with funding to be slashed by around £1.5billion from April. What is the Green Homes Grant? Mum and daughter die of Covid as 11 family members catch virus on Christmas Day
A mum and her daughter died of Covid after 11 family members tested positive following a Christmas gathering. Paramjeet Bains, 43, died on January 5 when she suffered a major seizure just one day after being admitted to the intensive care unit at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. Kashmir was admitted to the same unit and battled the virus for three weeks before her family took the heartbreaking decision to switch off her life support machine. According to brother and son Indy Bains, 11 members of his family caught the virus after they met on Christmas Day, the BBC reports. Mr Bains, 40, said the family was initially reluctant to gather but decided to spend a few hours together as his sister, who had learning disabilities, had suffered during isolation. The family "played safe", adhering to the government's three household rule. Days later they all tested positive to Covid-19.
