Stefan Sorce has brought along some sparkling rosé to mark the occasion. He's a regular at the hair salon "Nikos Friseure" and he's first in line when owner Nikos Kasapidis picks up the scissors again for the first time in two and half months. "It's an honor," says Sorce jovially as he walks into the shop in central Bonn. Barbers and hairdressers nationwide have been closed in Germany since December 16, 2020. They were ordered to close by the authorities in their desperation to stem the tide of coronavirus infections. Two weeks ago, they breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that they could open again on March 1. "The day they announced it we had something like 60 phone calls," said Kasapidis. He, his three employees and two apprentices are fully booked until the end of the month. How NASA professor is controlling Mars rover Perseverance from flat above a south London hairdressers
A NASA professor is controlling Mars rover Perseverance on the Red Planet from a one-bedroomed flat above a hairdresser. Sanjeev Gupta, 55, should be at mission control in California but like many others, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced him to work at home — in Lewisham, south London. Prof Gupta told the Daily Mail : "I should be at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, in a series of offices each one about three times bigger than this lounge, full of hundreds of scientists and engineers with their heads buried in laptops surrounded by large screens. "Nasa's headquarters is certainly a far cry from a one-bedroom flat." Prof Gupta is one of the leading scientists on the £3billion life-on-Mars mission. The geology expert at London's Imperial College and his colleagues will begin directing Perseverance to spots to drill for samples which will then be transported back to Earth in 2027 by a separate UK-backed project. He added: "The teenage son of a friend of … [Read more...] about How NASA professor is controlling Mars rover Perseverance from flat above a south London hairdressers
German hair salons reopen as COVID rules eased
Hairdressers in Germany opened their doors again on Monday, after being closed for the past two-and-a-half months under strict lockdown measures . The country is balancing a desire to return to normal with a concern about new strains of the virus, and a stall in the decline of new cases. What are the latest changes? Hairdressers are to open across Germany, provided they follow strict hygiene restrictions and adopt a reservations-only system. Most of the other major alterations vary from state to state. Certain states, including Germany's most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia, are to allow businesses such as flower shops and hardware stores to open. Some states are allowing music in schools, but with possible restrictions on singing and wind instruments deemed more likely to spread the virus. States including Bavaria — Germany's largest state by land mass — are also set to give the green light for driving lessons to begin again, and for foot care studios to reopen. … [Read more...] about German hair salons reopen as COVID rules eased
Lockdown roadmap should be sped up if things are going well, top expert declares
Boris Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown in England should be sped up if things are going well, a top expert claimed today. The Prime Minister has ruled out bringing forward the dates of his four-stage roadmap which pledges to lift all lockdown rules by June 21 at the earliest. But he should change his mind if the vaccine rollout curbs the virus faster than expected, said Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. The independent think tank is a leading authority on the Budget which will be announced next week. IFS boss Mr Johnson told Sky News' Sophy Ridge on Sunday: "I think it’s very clear that if things move more quickly, more positively than expected, if we have a very high fraction of people vaccinated and very low levels of infection, then yes it should be sped up. "There’s no need to stick to a date if things go better than expected. "Every month, every week of additional lockdown is costing not just the economy, it’s costing so many people so much … [Read more...] about Lockdown roadmap should be sped up if things are going well, top expert declares
Beauty fan reveals super easy hack to remove fake nails in minutes using nothing but oil
MOST of us are now pros at doing our own hair and nails over lockdown, but if you hadn’t quite mastered the art of removing fake nails, one woman has a pain free tip. The beauty fan shared a clip of herself to TikTok , showing off long, navy talons. She demonstrated they're stuck fast, before grabbing a bowl of soapy water - which we presume is warm - and dropping some Argan oil into the mix. She lets her hand soak for a few minutes before testing the nails, and seeing they’re still stuck on she dunks her hand in for another soak. When she removes them from the water, the press on nails peel off with ease - and without pain. The woman captioned the video: “Soooo I may be changing nails everyday now. “I was today years old when I found out. “Tell me why I’ve been taking these little bad boys and popping them off with my mouth, in excruciating pain, when I could have just soaked them in a little bit of oil and water.” Her genius tip has been watched nearly six … [Read more...] about Beauty fan reveals super easy hack to remove fake nails in minutes using nothing but oil
