You know that just beyond the curtain lies a heavenly world of flat beds, free-flowing champagne and fluffy duvets. But does it live up to all of those mid air fantasies? Travelling from Dublin to LA recently, I finally got to find out. The seats…Aer Lingus flights to New York and LA are on an Airbus A330 from Dublin, with 23 seats in business class. With a seat pitch of 58 inches and a width of 21 inches, you have a good bit of room to play with, and the seat reclines into a fully lie-flat 6’6” long bed. The seat pitches are fairly standard, but not the best in the business – Virgin Atlantic, which flies to LA from London, also has a 6’6” long bed but a width of 33 inches, and the seat placement means there’s no one in front of you. Ethiopian Airlines, the only other airline flying direct from Dublin to LA, has a pitch of 68 inches, though the beds don’t fully recline. While not gargantuan, I am fairly tall (one of my crueller nicknames … [Read more...] about Review: What’s it really like to fly in Aer Lingus Business Class?
Lufthansa 747 400 business class review
Taiwanese carrier EVA Air serves cities throughout Asia from its hub in Taipei, as well as a number of destinations in North America and Europe. One of its most popular long-haul routes is its daily flight between Taipei and London, which stops in Bangkok. This is a review of EVA Air’s Royal Laurel, or business-class, daytime flight from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to London Heathrow Terminal 2, aboard a Boeing B777-300ER aircraft. Pre-departure In Bangkok, I was attended to immediately at EVA’s Royal Laurel check-in counter and provided with a pass to use the Fast Track facilities at Suvarnabhumi Airport. These perks seem particularly indispensable in Bangkok, where diabolical traffic can often cause delays en route to the airport and the capital’s popularity means standard airport queues can be significant. Looking somewhat like a converted nightclub, the EVA Air lounge is decorated with curious light installations and swirl-pattern carpets. … [Read more...] about EVA Air Royal Laurel B777-300ER business class: review
It was perhaps just a little bit obvious that it was my first time sitting at the front end of a plane. “Once you fly business class, you’ll never go back,” warned the passenger behind me. I removed my eye mask to nod at him and sprayed on some more hydrating facial mist before taking another selfie. Shoes off, complementary socks on, cocktail in hand and my own bowl of nuts to nibble on. All while on the tarmac at Cardiff Airport. How bizarre, that right now I could see Rhoose out of the window. This is the first long-haul flight I’ve ever taken from Cardiff Airport. Qatar Airways now provides Wales’ first direct link to the Middle East, with daily flights to Doha operating for the last six months. The airline has the world’s youngest fleet and its business class seats are consistently ranked among the best - they won Skytrax Best Business Class in the World 2018 and their newest aircrafts even offer a double bed. The first thing I learned is that … [Read more...] about What it’s like to fly in the world’s best business class cabin
In service since late 2015, British Airways' Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner planes are the most advanced aircraft in the carrier's fleet (innovations include an advanced pressurisation system which means the internal cabin altitude is significantly less than on other aircraft, said to help passengers feel fresher at the end of the flight). As the number of Boeing 787-9 aircraft in the BA fleet has increased so too have the destinations which they serve. British Airways passengers may fly on the aircraft if travelling from London to destinations such as Atlanta, Beijing, Moscow, the Seychelles and Toronto. This is a review of the experience aboard a night-time Club World (business-class) flight from London Heathrow to Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, which serves Santiago in Chile. Pre-departure With my 10pm flight one of that day’s last scheduled departures, Heathrow Terminal 5 was exceptionally quiet when I arrived at 8.30pm. My ticket was processed … [Read more...] about British Airways Dreamliner 787-9: Club World business-class review

A Freedom of Information request carried out by the Taxpayers’ Alliance found that the authority spent £128,080.50 on 68.5 flights to Europe and 13 flights to other world destinations. As part of that, the authority spent £26,583 on six business class flights to Tokyo. The council was the highest-spending on flights out of all North East local authorities. Two of the flights were for premium economy while nine were in business class.
