A couple who say they couldn't afford a mortgage now have a place of their own - by transforming a horsebox into a stylish home. Architectural designer Sophie Frykfors von Hekkel and her partner Lalli Castiglione bought the 7.5 ton horsebox for £3,500 and admit it was in "very bad shape" having previously been used to transport four horses for years. But lockdown provided the perfect opportunity to complete a full refurb, seeing the 20ft by 6ft box turned into a home complete with a double bedroom, which is accessed by a ladder. It also comprises of a living room, kitchen, bathroom with shower, home office, and a lounge area that converts into a dining room or spare bedroom - all of which can be driven to any location they like. Instagram The pair spent £12,000 on the refurbishment, bringing the total cost to £15,500, and Sophie told the Metro : "Now our living expenses are down to £50 a month for water and gas – plus the diesel to drive our home somewhere else if we … [Read more...] about Couple convert horsebox into stunning home – and now have monthly bills of just £50

Mum’s cheap McDonald’s McFlurry hack dubbed a ‘game changer’ as she gets five for less than £3
AN Australian mum has shared her cheap McFlurry ordering hack which allows her to get five ice-cream treats for less than £3 In the UK a typical McFlurry from McDonald's would cost 99p, but in Australia its a whopping $5.10 (£2.86) - so that means she saves a huge $20 (£11.24) every time she orders. While the saving isn't as big based on UK prices, if you were to do the same you could still make a significant saving - and they are the perfect sizes for kids. Queensland mum Connie Hansen shared her McDonald’s ordering hack to the Facebook page Mums who Budget & Save where it attracted more than 2000 likes from impressed parents. Many praised the savvy trick as “genius” and “awesome”, but others said they had been ordering the McDonald's dessert this way for years Rather than buying a McFlurry for each of her kids, she'll ask for soft serve ice cream in a sundae lid with an extra side of M&Ms. Unlike the UK stores who offer a mini McFlurry for a discounted … [Read more...] about Mum’s cheap McDonald’s McFlurry hack dubbed a ‘game changer’ as she gets five for less than £3

Inside Odeon as it prepares to reopen cinemas with no pick and mix or cash payments
STEPPING into an Odeon cinema and a waft of fresh popcorn hits my nose. It might still smell the same, but how different will cinemas look when they reopen their doors after lockdown? The Sun takes an exclusive first look inside an Odeon in Milton Keynes as it prepares to reopen with new social distancing rules, which include no pick and mix, cash payments and fewer seats. The cinema chain’s 120 venues have been shut since March 17, along with rivals Vue, Picturehouse and Cineworld. But Odeon has now confirmed it’ll reopen 10 of its cinemas on July 4 , with a further 88 set to welcome back customers by July 16. It comes after the government gave cinema chains the green light to reopen from early July, along with pubs, hotels and restaurants. I love going to the cinema - so I was excited to see how its changed. Inside the movie theatre there are restrictions on where you can sit, with every other row and at least three seats between households left unoccupied to … [Read more...] about Inside Odeon as it prepares to reopen cinemas with no pick and mix or cash payments
I’m a tough cookie and put on a brave face but I’ve been depressed and struggled to cope, says Alex Scott
From the outside I’m sure most of you know me as that smiley woman from the TV. And largely, I am. I love socialising, I love meeting new people and I love my work. I love to laugh. That’s me . But there are still days where I feel low. These low days look different for everyone – I personally go quiet, inwards, shut myself off. I’ve been really open about how I see a therapist, and how that was such a positive change in my life. That said, it was only through my recent BBC documentary, The Truth About Improving Your Mental Health that I was told I was depressed. Looking at my daily life, many would wonder how I could be ‘depressed’. But mental illness doesn’t work like that. It’s so easy to think there are people worse off than us and we have no right to feel sorry for ourselves. But that thought process alone can be really dangerous, and lead to bigger problems. Mental illness can strike anyone at any time - no matter your age, gender or race. It doesn’t … [Read more...] about I’m a tough cookie and put on a brave face but I’ve been depressed and struggled to cope, says Alex Scott
