Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the summer window after agreeing a fee with Sao Paulo for Marquinhos. The Brazilian teenage winger arrived in London earlier this week after the Gunners finalised terms on a deal worth around £3million. Marquinhos made his senior debut 18 months ago and has caught the eye of Arsenal’s South American scouts. According to Goal, assuming the paper work is completed in time, the versatile forward could link up with his new teammates in the summer and could be given the chance to impress during pre-season . A dad left his partner of 10 years after falling in love with the Ukrainian refugee they had taken in. Tony Garnett, 29, applied to be part of the Government’s refugee scheme but grew impatient at how long it was taking and joined Facebook groups where Ukrainians were looking for sponsors. This is where 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym found him – she was fleeing her home in Lviv after Russia invaded. After figuring out the logistics, Sofiia arrived in the UK on May 4 and went to live with Tony, his partner Lorna and their three and six-year-old daughters in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Tony told The Sun how the pair ‘just clicked’ and got on really well straight away – partly because Tony could speak Slovakian which is similar to Ukrainian. They chose a room in the village of Endon, Staffordshire, marketed by host Matthew Tolley as ‘Luxury Endon House Share’. But Lianna said the offering – located half-an-hour’s drive from Alton Towers, was ‘anything but luxury’. Much more recent abuses of indigenous children within residential schools, many of them Catholic, have attracted apologies from Pope Francis downwards.
