FEEL like you've been on a diet for the past ten years but nothing's really worked? Well, that could be because long-term dieting doesn't work - at least according to one expert. Dr Nick Fuller, an obesity boff from the University of Sydney, has been researching the key to long-lasting weight loss. He says that all people have to do is eat healthily and exercise...for a month. Yep, his theory is that you should only be on the bandwagon a month at a time, before having a month's break. "Traditionally weight loss programmes promote a continuous calorie restriction to include a continuous weight loss," he explained in his book, Interval Weight Loss for Life. "However a weight loss plateau tends to kick in around three to six months and a person will start to regain the lost weight." That approach - as we all know - is often unsuccessful. But that isn't down to a lack of willpower, Dr Fuller maintains, it's because our stressed-out bodies actively start to work against us. He says that … [Read more...] about Want to lose weight fast? A Belper woman “spent the best part of 15 years miserable” before losing an incredible 10st in under 12 months. Annette Stanton Kirkpatrick, 35, said she had been living on a diet of sandwiches, chocolate, crisps and takeaways. At her heaviest, she weighed nearly 24st. She said she never wanted to leave the house because she could feel people staring at her, and whenever she did go out with her family she would Google whether she could fit into the chairs or booths. “We’d go to theme parks and I’d be there carrying the bags because I couldn’t fit on any of the rides,” she said. “Now they carry their own bags.” She said her unhappy years before joining Alfreton-based Slimming World were spent avoiding family parties so that she would not have to eat in front of people and let them see how big she had got. “Walking into my first group was probably the hardest things I’ve done. When it comes to losing weight it seems to be all about diet and exercise. It's obvious that exercise is key to any weight loss regimes as it helps you burn calories and more calories burned means a greater weight loss. But what if you hate exercise? According to nutritional therapist Petronella Ravenshear, no: "Contrary to the popular notion that we need to exercise to lose weight it’s simply not true." Plenty of studies have backed up Ravenshear’s opinion. Last year, a study published in Current Biology found that while exercise is important for your overall health, it shouldn’t be the only focus for weight loss. In fact, tweaking your diet can be more beneficial to not only losing the weight, but keeping it off. Generally, weight loss is 75 per cent diet and 25 percent exercise. That’s not to say you have to radically switch up what you eat overnight. “Cutting down on carbohydrates and drinking lots of water, which will take the edge off hunger and … [Read more...] about Can you lose weight without exercise?
