THIS Morning has been hit with almost 2,000 Ofcom complaints after Dr Michael Mosley encouraged viewers to eat just 800 calories a day to lose "lockdown weight". Fans were left outraged by the "dangerous" segment last week, which aired on Friday's episode with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary . The professional insisted that consuming 800 to 1,000 calories a day can be "safe and effective" on the programme - adding that he is a "fan of rapid weight loss". This is less than half of the recommended calorie intake, which is 2,500 for men and 2,000 for women. The segment faced fierce backlash online at the time, particularly as it aired during Eating Disorder Awareness Week , and 1,932 people have reported their concerns to TV watchdog Ofcom. This Morning will now be assessed on whether or not the regulator needs to conduct a full investigation into the complaints. Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote on Friday [26 February]: "There is no way This Morning … [Read more...] about This Morning hit with nearly 2,000 complaints after viewers enraged by 800-calorie diet to lose ‘lockdown weight’

Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert reminds parents not to miss out on thousands of pounds of tax-free childcare
MARTIN Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert is urging parents not to miss out on thousands of pounds of tax-free childcare. As part of the tax-free childcare scheme, you can get up to £500 every three months - up to £2,000 a year - for each of your children. For disabled children, the maximum amount you could get rises to £4,000. The scheme essentially works like a savings account where for every £8 you save towards childcare costs, the government tops up an extra £2. So if you put away £8,000 a year for one child, the government will give you £2,000 totally free. But MoneySavingExpert estimates fewer than one in five of the 1.3 million families eligible for tax-free childcare aren’t taking advantage of the scheme. What help is available for parents for childcard costs? CHILDCARE can be a costly business but here is how you can get help: 30 hours free childcare - Parents of three and four-year-olds can apply for 30 hours free childcare a week. To qualify you must … [Read more...] about Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert reminds parents not to miss out on thousands of pounds of tax-free childcare
Amazon set to open first checkout-free grocery store in the UK in coming days
Online behemoth Amazon is preparing to open its first walk-in store in the UK this week, selling items such as groceries and technology, without any checkouts. The multi-billion-pound retail empire - owned by the richest man in the world - is bringing its Amazon Go concept to Britain's high streets, allowing shoppers to pick up items without tills and minimal staff. The first shop will open 'this week' in Ealing in West London, according to reports. And as with its US stores, there will be no physical checkouts, with all shopping baskets scanned - and customers charged - when they leave the store via the Amazon Go app. The concept first launched in the US in 2018 and it was first reported last year that the shopping giant was eyeing as many as 30 locations in the UK for bricks and mortar stores. According to speculation, staff are preparing to open the shop in the coming days - with coverings hiding the Amazon branded store front on the busy West London high street. WHEN Saffron Drewitt-Barlow feels her skin is lacking a bit of glow, she knows exactly what to do – get online and book a first-class plane ticket for her favourite beauty therapist. Courtney Lawes on warpath as Saints prepare to collide in Wales-England showdown
Courtney Lawes warned clubmate Dan Biggar he is on the warpath as England rejected Sir Ian Botham’s claim that they are an unhappy camp. Lawes has been tasked with upping the physicality on Saturday in Wales where England must win to keep alive their Six Nations title hopes. Last night the Northampton forward spelled out his intention to “rattle” Welsh playmaker Biggar and ignite England’s tournament after a poor start. “My game is based on physicality and bringing that edge to the team,” said Lawes. “I am always pretty sore after games as I try to make good hits - and plenty of them. “Biggs is pretty tough to be fair, especially for a 10. But I caught him the last time we played and he said he felt it, which I was kind of chuffed about. “He is obviously a class player so if I can get some pressure on him I certainly will. I don’t think it will rattle him too much but I will try.” If Biggar was in any doubt of what is coming his way, his Saints employers kindly posted a … [Read more...] about Courtney Lawes on warpath as Saints prepare to collide in Wales-England showdown
