The group's army of loyal fans took to social media accuse the station's Matthias Matuschik of racism after he blasted the band's cover of Coldplay's "Fix You." What did the Bayern 3 host say about BTS? Matuschik compared the band to the COVID-19 virus, describing them as "some crappy virus that hopefully there will be a vaccine for soon as well." "These little a**holes brag about the fact they covered 'Fix You' from Coldplay, this is blasphemy," he said. "For this you will be vacationing in North Korea for the next 20 years!" Sensing his comments might cause upset, Matuschik said his comments were not aimed at South Korea. "You can't accuse me of xenophobia," he said. "I have a car from South Korea. A hunt continues for a person in the UK infected with a coronavirus "variant of concern" from Brazil, with the government accused of "unforgivable incompetence" in managing Britain's borders. The COVID-19 variant, first seen in the city of Manaus, is feared to spread more rapidly than the original virus and could be more capable of evading existing vaccines. Three cases of the P.1 coronavirus variant have been confirmed in England and three in Scotland, Public Health England said. Two of the cases in England come from a household in South Gloucestershire, where one person returned from Brazil in mid-February, before hotel quarantine measures were introduced. Live COVID updates from the UK and around the world Advertisement What we know about the Brazil variant Sara Blackmore, public health director for South Gloucestershire, said increased testing - including asymptomatic testing - and enhanced contact-tracing had been introduced … [Read more...] about COVID-19: Boris Johnson accused of border ‘incompetence’ – as hunt continues for mystery person infected with Brazil variant
The UK's first cases of the Brazil variant of coronavirus have been detected, with up to six people infected with the mutant strain. An urgent search was launched to find one of the six as officials have no idea who they are or where they live. That's because that person didn't fill in their test registration card. The P.1 variant is one of four variants of concern, and measures were brought in to prevent it from being brought into the country. However, they were too late, as a handful of travellers, who returned despite a ban on direct flights and days before quarantine hotels were brought in, have now tested positive for the variant, which may spread more rapidly and may respond less well to existing vaccines. Health officials are hunting for a person in the UK who is infected with a worrying Brazil variant of Covid-19 in a bid to stop it spreading into the wider community. There are also concerns that the mutation, first identified in Manaus, can re-infect people who have previously had Covid, and that it has the ability to lessen the impact of vaccines. Dr Susan Hopkins, strategic response director at Public Health England (PHE), said the person was thought to have been tested on February 12 or 13, possibly via a home postal test or a test collected from a local authority. She said the individual may not have completed their form completely online, or may have thought they did, and may not have got their results. "We are looking at where the test may have been sent from and to, working with the postal services and the courier services," she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme, adding that the public appeal was a "belt-and-braces approach". A desperate race has been launched to find a mystery Brit with a dangerous mutant strain of coronavirus first found in Brazil. The government says “every effort is underway” to find the person - who may not know they are positive or be in isolation. The case of the P.1 variant is one of six that were detected on or around Friday - three in England, and three in Scotland. The other five either flew into the UK from Brazil, or live with someone who did. But the unknown case raises the threat that the variant - which may spread more easily or resist the vaccine - is “loose” in our society and already spreading. With genome sequencing taking about 10 days, how the government responds to this crisis will be crucial for our future. And the case has already raised questions about hotel quarantine - given the known sufferers flew into Britain before the long-delayed policy took effect. So how did the case go missing, what do we know about it, and what can you do to help? How … [Read more...] about Covid Brazil variant sparks desperate race to find mystery Brit – how case got lost
