Joe Root makes comments about pitch as England humiliated by India inside two days

· February 25, 2021 ·

England were humiliated by 10 wickets in the shortest Test match since the war. All done and dusted inside 140.2 overs, England's hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final were also dashed as India took a 2-1 lead in the series with one match left to play. The over reliance on Joe Root's batting this winter was exposed for the second match in succession, but so too perhaps was their reliance on his bowling as he claimed the first five wicket haul of his career. But just when Root thought his 5-8 as part of bowling India out for 145 in response to England's 112, might have given his side a way back into the game, all hopes were dashed by a second innings horror show of 81 all out. The state of the pitch has been the main talking point with the ball bursting through the surface from day one and 17 wickets falling on day two. Some balls turned violently to put huge doubts into batsmen's minds, but the most damage was done by balls not turning and going straight on with … [Read more...] about Joe Root makes comments about pitch as England humiliated by India inside two days

School days could be lengthened and holidays shortened to help kids catch up

· February 24, 2021 ·

School days may be lengthened and holidays shortened to let pupils catch up, Gavin Williamson hinted today. The Education Secretary confirmed he is looking at “the whole expanse” of options to help left-behind children. He announced a short-term, £300m ‘recovery premium’ for catch-up schemes - worth about £6,000 for primaries and £22,000 for secondaries on average. Mr Williamson stopped short of confirming his long-term plans as all pupils return to schools in England on March 8. But questioned by Sky, he refused to rule out either lengthening the school day or shortening the summer break. A government source indicated the two options would be considered by Sir Kevan Collins, the Government's new catch up tsar, as part of a new review. And asked about the two options, Mr Williamson said: “We’re looking at a whole range of different actions. “What we wanted to do was give schools the extra resources they needed to be able to take action immediately. “Some of the … [Read more...] about School days could be lengthened and holidays shortened to help kids catch up

Pregnant mum turns her dressing gown into a chic evening dress for her mate’s 30th

· February 22, 2021 ·

A PREGNANT woman who couldn't find a comfortable outfit to wear to a friend's 30th stunned friends and family by stepping out in a dressing gown. Bree, 26, from Adelaide, Australia, picked up the chic midnight blue kimono for just £11.25 (AU$20/US $15.79) at the Australian chain Kmart , dubbing it her "new evening wear". She draped the gown over her body and styled it with statement earrings, heels and a belt, which sat nicely above her burgeoning bump. To complete the dressy look, she opted for a sleek high ponytail, which sat on her right shoulder for the photos, which she later shared on Facebook. Pretty impressed with how her outfit came together, Bree - who is already mum to one - shared snaps in a popular Australian Facebook group and said: “Kmart sleepwear is my new ‘evening wear’. You’re welcome.” Since sharing her unique sleepwear transformation on Monday, her post has been ‘liked’ more than 2,300 times with hundreds of comments from fellow Kmart shoppers … [Read more...] about Pregnant mum turns her dressing gown into a chic evening dress for her mate’s 30th

‘Normal’ summer hope for Brits as lockdown to end on June 21 after 4 key steps

· February 22, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson has raised hopes of a ‘normal’ summer by announcing plans to lift all Covid restrictions in England by June 21. The Prime Minister set out a four-step easing of restrictions starting with the return of all children to school and social mixing outdoors ( see below ). He predicted that the success of the vaccine roll-out meant: “Today the end really is in sight”. Mr Johnson told MPs: “A wretched year will give way to a Spring and a Summer that will be incomparably better”. He later added that the “crocus of hope is poking through the frost”. But in a dramatic shift in tone, he stressed that his approach must now be “cautious” to avoid a fourth national lockdown. And he admitted that he could not guarantee that the measures would be “irreversible” - although he wanted them to be. What is your view? Have your say in the comments section Tory MPs have urged him to lift measures by April 26 now that more than 17.7m people have received their first Covid … [Read more...] about ‘Normal’ summer hope for Brits as lockdown to end on June 21 after 4 key steps
