0 Post a comment Sunday, 10 June 2018 - Community News CELEBRATING a more sustainable way of life for ourselves and our planet, Farnham Community Farm‘s Sustainability Fayre was back again - seeking to build on the break-out success of last year’s inaugural event in Gostrey Meadow. There was an array of local produce to sample on Saturday, June 9, as well as a number of enlightening talks from nutritionists and fitness coaches to beekeepers and brewers.Yoga workshops were also due to be held throughout the day, with plenty of activities and storytelling sessions for kids from start to finish.Alongside all of this, a crowdfunding campaign was launched in order to raise money for Farnham Community Farm. The target of £15,000 will make a huge impact on the organisation for many years to come. Norfolk Day Logo Bread, beer, cured meats, coffee and gin will be just some of the locally-produced food and drink on offer on a special Norfolk Day pop-up stall. The team behind the popular Porkstock food festival will be hosting a one-day only stall in a Norwich shopping centre on Friday, July 27. A new weekly pop-up supermarket is heading to New Mills and will champion local produce. High Peak Food Hub will meet every Thursday from June 7 and will give shoppers an opportunity to buy locally-grown fruit and vegetables as well as enjoy cookery demonstrations and producer talks.The new supermarket is the brainchild of Esther Morrison, from High Peak Food Hub, who says it will help to provide a boost to traders and producers in the area.She said: “Local independent shops need supporting, local restaurant capacity is limited in scope, there is no longer a town deli or greengrocer in many of the surrounding towns - though New Mills has an excellent fruit and veg stall at it’s Friday and Saturday market - and many of the newer residents were not able to shop local except on Saturdays, because of their commute. “But there is an enthusiasm for great, local food being more widely available and High Peak Food Hub will meet that need.”Online shoppers will also be … [Read more...] about Pop-up supermarket to champion local produce

Archant A former Michelin-starred chef is bringing his five-mile food challenge pop-up to the Globe Inn in Beaford. Luke Fearon will be hosting an evening of untamed, fine food which challenges chefs to find as many prime ingredients as possible within five-miles of the venue. This keeps the menu hyper-local and hyper-seasonal and links diners with local producers, farmers and food heroes. The Globe Inn will be hosting the six-course, set meal on Saturday, May 26, with Luke headlining the event. The menu will be a taste of Beaford and celebrate the spring produce within the area with dishes like River Torridgetrout with Hallwood Farm, asparagus and hay-smoked Taw Valley cream.
