A couple has doubled the value of their £1million country home by embarking on an extensive home makeover without blowing money as they find bargains on ebay and auction sites. Tracey Gill and her husband spent £360,000 on stunning renovations that have transformed their East Sussex village house from a nondescript property to one that is beautiful, lighter and brighter. The house, which was bought for £1.025million in 2016, has now been revalued at between £1.8million and £2million. The couple spent 18 months transforming the rural property into a dream home with beautiful design and decor. Tracy said: “My husband gave me the brief when house hunting to find a house ripe for transformation in the prettiest location. “I knew I could change any house we bought so the important factor was the land and location.” She said the house they bought was “covered in cream pebble dash with concrete roof tiles, dark rooms, artexed walls and low ceilings” which was an issue for her … [Read more...] about Couple double value of their home with stunning £360k makeover – and now it’s worth £2m

‘Boris Johnson has become our gaslighting boyfriend so let’s dump him and move on’
That gnawing worry deep in the pit of your stomach, all of the time. Living on eggshells, constantly on edge, control completely surrendered. Being too scared to hope that today might be OK, because that makes it worse when it’s not. Steeling yourself for disappointments – which will be billed as your fault – in advance, so maybe they’ll hurt less, which turns out not to work. I thought my time at the mercy of terrible boyfriends had come to an end when I married someone nice, so how am I back in an emotionally abusive relationship? Boris Johnson has somehow turned me, and the whole country, into his long-suffering partner. On Monday he revealed his roadmap out of lockdown, which – unlike all the other times – is sensible. I was expecting the opposite, the absolute worst, because that’s all I’ve ever known from him. Instead, a novel experience – I was pleasantly surprised. But then, once the stunned relief had worn off, it was hard not to notice all he’d actually … [Read more...] about ‘Boris Johnson has become our gaslighting boyfriend so let’s dump him and move on’
Vaccine side-effects, fertility and jab shortages – Van-Tam answers your questions
England's deputy chief medical officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam has appeared on Sky News to answer some questions from the public on the coronavirus crisis. He shared his perspective on the public's queries and concerns on topics including the vaccine rollout, vaccine hesitancy and lifting the lockdown. Below are some of the key things from the Q&A, followed by a short analysis from science correspondent Thomas Moore , who offers his insight on each answer. 1. Since we hit the first 15 million jabs target there has been a drop-off in the daily vaccination numbers. Why? "That's really very simple to explain. There are always going to be supply fluctuations. Advertisement Using one of his now-famous analogies Prof Van-Tam compared the manufacture of vaccines to beer-making. He said you set the equipment up and let … [Read more...] about Vaccine side-effects, fertility and jab shortages – Van-Tam answers your questions

RISHI Sunak is preparing to extend the stamp duty holiday by three months until the end of June. The Chancellor is set to delay the cut off point for buyers to save thousands on purchasing homes with the move. The Treasury announced last year that it would temporarily raise the stamp duty threshold from £125,000 to £500,000 for property sales in England and Northern Ireland. But many people have been left scrambling to complete their transactions before the deadline of March 31, worried that if they do not, they could be left with a £15,000 tax bill. The deadline will now likely roll on until the summer. The Times reported that Mr Sunak - who has been urged not to end the stamp duty holiday - will use his Budget next week to move the deadline to the end of June. Extending the stamp duty holiday could cost the Treasury around £1 billion, according to The Times. It will go alongside moves to extend furlough and other support measures such as the VAT cut … [Read more...] about Stamp duty holiday to be extended to the end of June saving movers up to £15k in tax in £1bn budget giveaway

Megan Younger-Watson, 17, who was described by her family as “beautiful, polite and funny” was allegedly sexually assaulted after drinking in a pub.
