A dozen games into the current Premier League season and it's been undoubted progress for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. At the same stage of last season's fourth-placed finish, the Reds sat in fifth with 22 points from the possible 36 on offer for Klopp's side. Fast forward 12 months and Liverpool are staking a very serious claim for a Premier League title, with the 30 points amassed so far only bettered by Pep Guardiola's much-vaunted Manchester City - the same squad that recorded a record-breaking 100-point haul in May. On the surface, forward strides are clearly being made, with the Reds eight points better off now than at the same point of last season's campaign. Twelve months ago, City had taken 34 points too, two more than they have picked up so far this term, meaning the Reds are 10 points better off in their hunt. However, if last season's finish is to be used as a framework, the five-time European Cup winners still require a further 16-point turnaround against the Premier League … [Read more...] about The 10-point swing that gives Liverpool hope in title race

Liverpool hoping history doesn’t repeat itself in North London
Eight wins from the opening 10 games. 26 points from 30. A best-ever start to a Premier League season. And a testing trip to North London on the horizon. Except we're not talking about Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Rewind exactly a decade ago today, and the Reds, then helmed by Rafael Benitez, were preparing for a pivotal clash against Tottenham Hotspur as they looked to extend their unbeaten record. The similarities with the task facing Liverpool on Saturday evening, when they are at in-form Arsenal, don't end there. Tottenham were under new management, although Unai Emery has had a few months to grow accustomed to his fresh surrounds as opposed to the week afforded Harry Redknapp by the time the Reds were in town. But while Arsenal are currently unbeaten in 13 games, Tottenham were bottom of the Premier League having won just one game and only days earlier somehow snaffling a 4-4 draw at their neighbours. Liverpool's upcoming fixtures Liverpool were three points clear at the top. And … [Read more...] about Liverpool hoping history doesn’t repeat itself in North London

Liverpool hope youngster will avoid long spell on sidelines
Liverpool expect to learn the full extent of Bobby Adekanye's knee injury in the next 24 hours. The Dutch youth international was stretchered off in the closing stages of Friday night's 4-0 defeat to Arsenal in Premier League 2. Adekanye received oxygen after landing awkwardly following a foul and he left Boreham Wood's Meadow Park on crutches. The 19-year-old winger has heavy swelling around his right knee but is now able to walk unaided. Liverpool hope that's a sign that it's not as bad as first feared. Adekanye has enjoyed a fine start to the season and an extended spell on the sidelines would be a crushing setback for him. Three days before the under-23s showdown with Arsenal he helped Liverpool get off to a flier in the UEFA Youth League as he scored in a thumping 5-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain at St Helens. It was a chastening night for Neil Critchley's side against the Gunners but Liverpool U18s lifted the mood at the Academy with a thrilling 4-3 win at Blackburn on Saturday. … [Read more...] about Liverpool hope youngster will avoid long spell on sidelines
