It had already been a great December, but Hull City ensured it was the perfect Christmas too by following up their home win over Swansea City with three points at Preston North End. Two Jackson Irvine goals either side of a Preston equaliser ensured the Tigers headed home with three valuable points. It was a result which saw City climb up to 15th in the table before travelling to top of the table Leeds United on Saturday as they bid toe nd the month unbeaten. Three successive victories have done wonders for City's league standing, but it wouldn't be City without some drama. After his two goals Jackson Irvine now departs for up to a month with Australia for the Asia Cup, while it looks like centre back Tommy Elphick is on his way back to Aston Villa. No bull: More than two-thirds of the S&P 500's individual stocks are now either in a "correction" or a bear market. More than 350 companies out of the 500 tracked by the S&P 500 index have lost more than 10 percent of their value since hitting their 52-week highs, according to a recent analysis from Reuters. Within that group around 180 stocks are now in bear market territory, with their shares having lost more than 20 percent of their value since hitting their 52-week high. A bear market is one where stock prices decline at least 20 percent from their recent peak. A correction is when shares drop at least 10 percent from their recent highs. Twitter shares hit a three-year high following confirmation it will be added to the US benchmark S&P 500 from June 7. But will it stay in the index for long? The committee that decides which shares are included in the S&P 500 has given Twitter a very valuable “like”. The shares will be included in the most significant index in the world, forcing trackers and exchange-traded funds to buy the shares. Indeed, index funds tracking the S&P 500 have more than $700bn under management, according to research firm Lipper. Many of these will be buy shares on June 7, raising the possibility of a further bump in its share price. The news sent the micro-blogging site’s valuation up by 5% and the share hit a three-year high. The space in the index was created by the takeover of Monsanto by Germany’s Bayer.
