At the end of last month (30th-31st March) 16 students and their families from Essence Dance & Fitness traveled to Avila for the Gran National Finals of Spain of Vive tu Sueño. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears during rehearsals it was time to take the stage and do what they all do best! First to compete was our HipHop team Baby Essence and as a dance teacher would say “they smashed it!”. Words can’t describe how extremely proud I am of them! They all danced their little hearts out and had the time of their life’s! It’s a great achievement as it is to say they had reached the national finals of spain, as they are only aged 5-8, but when we did the on stage wait for the results and got the call out to announce we had won 3rd place was such a surprise and an incredible feeling! Not forgetting all our little dancers faces, which will be a memory cherished forever!! With our Baby Essence winning 3rd place Intermediate it’s extremely exciting … [Read more...] about ESSENCE DANCE & FITNESS ARE OFF TO EUROPEANS IN ROME!!
Perhaps there was never going to be a fairy tale end to the fighting life, times and hardships of Olympian, Commonwealth champion and quality boxer, Franco Wanyama. Wanyama fought for Uganda at the Seoul Olympics, turned professional in Belgium and travelled the world fighting some of the finest boxers of his generation in the Nineties. He also met the usual crooks, chancers and liars on the road and fell victim to the usual curses like any vulnerable fighter. Late last month poor Franco died on his own in Rugby. He was just 51. He had a heart attack one afternoon in his tiny room at a sheltered housing facility. The boxer was a long, long way from his Ugandan home, but just a few miles from his old family home in the Warwickshire market town. We’ll tell you what’s true. You can form your own view. From 15p €0.18 $0.18 … [Read more...] about The life and death of Franco Wanyama

Karen McKeown is campaigning for changes to mental health provision after the death of her partner Luke Henderson. She told the Public Petitions Committee she feels they were let down by the health service. The father-of-two was suffering from hallucinations and “had become mentally unwell” during December 2017, Ms McKeown told MSPs, leaving her “desperately concerned for his safety”. Despite repeated visits to accident and emergency departments, calls to GP surgeries and the NHS 24 helpline, Ms McKeown said: “Every time we were turned away and abandoned. “Every professional I spoke to, I made clear that Luke was planning on taking his own life. Time after time I pleaded for help.” She … [Read more...] about Woman whose partner took own life demands improved mental health care
