Ellen White is on the brink of history. The Manchester City hotshot needs just four more England goals to surpass Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and become the country's leading international goalscorer of all-time. If that prospect wasn't exciting enough, she could achieve the remarkable feat on home soil during the women's Euros this summer, which begins today. White is currently on 50 goals for the Lionesses. One more will move her above Harry Kane into second, three more will see her draw level with Rooney, while four during the tournament will guarantee her place in the history books. Sky Sports and England favourite Sue Smith says it would be an "unreal" achievement if White can break the record this summer. Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit
A delegation of Cabinet ministers are set to meet Boris Johnson at No10 as he heads out of a car crash Liaison Committee meeting this evening to tell him to go. 'Men in grey suits' Welsh Secretary Simon Hart, grim-faced Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis are set to tell the Prime Minister he had lost the confidence of his party. The revelation the PM knew about claims against “grope” accused MP Chris Pincher, then promoted him, then “forgot” he’d been told, was the last straw for many MPs. Chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid led the way yesterday for a wave of Tory resignations . The doomed PM has seen dozens of his own MPs quit in 24 hours, including ministers, parliamentary private secretaries and trade envoys. Meanwhile, Tories have discussed changing the rules of no confidence votes - to force the PM out as soon as next week if he opts to squat in No10. In a day of feverish drama at Westminster the … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit

What are the questions waiting at the top of his in-tray? And what should he do differently to avoid the sudden exit of his predecessor? 1) How to get back the political initiative? Damian Hinds will have to re-energise the Conservatives' vision for education, finding something positive that will connect with the public. From the perspective of 10 Downing Street, it must have seemed as though Labour was making much of the weather over schools and universities. Parents were worried about being asked to bail out cash-starved schools. And Jeremy Corbyn's promise to scrap tuition fees had seen Labour's student vote reaching record levels. Euro 2022: Is England ready for the biggest tournament yet?
With a shade over 24 hours until England host Austria at a sold-out Old Trafford, a handful of construction workers are busy building a fan park in Manchester city center. A few kilometers northeast of the building site, UEFA's Chief of Women's Football takes to the stage in a stadium hospitality room. "I feel so many different kinds of emotions but can't wait for it to get started now," said Nadine Kessler , who won 29 caps for Germany between 2010 and 2016. "I really think it's completely incomparable to when I played. I might need to be a bit provocative, but I think in my days people were more concerned with how my jersey fit than the result. We've come a long way." The buildup to the tournament has seen plenty of reflection on the growth of the game in recent years. But the day before it starts, with unfinished fan parks, sporadic advertising boards and a reported shortage of England women's shirts in major sports shops, there is a sense that organizers may not have foreseen … [Read more...] about Euro 2022: Is England ready for the biggest tournament yet?
The questions Sarina Wiegman must answer before England’s Euro 2022 campaign
England head coach Sarina Wiegman says she is “close” to knowing her starting side for July 6’s Euros opener against Austria at Old Trafford, but that her squad’s high performance levels are giving her a “hard time” to make the last-remaining decisions. The Lionesses face Switzerland in Zurich on Thursday in their final warm-up match before their first home tournament in 17 years gets under way, and the game will be one final chance for the former Netherlands coach to test things out on the field. Wiegman’s side were boosted by the arrival of Ellen White in Basel - where they are training ahead of Thursday’s game - late on Tuesday night. White flew to Switzerland on her own after testing negative for Covid-19, which had ruled her out of last week’s 5-1 win over the Netherlands . She joined the squad for training on Wednesday morning, with the only absent player being Lucy Bronze, who is feeling unwell but has tested negative for Covid. Bronze will fly back to England on … [Read more...] about The questions Sarina Wiegman must answer before England’s Euro 2022 campaign
