Administrators have been brought at an Ashby private school that closed at the end of last month. Manor House School, which costs £10,000 a year, shut its doors in November allegedly "due to a mass walkout of teachers". Paul Zalkin and Nick Simmonds, of business advisory firm Quantuma, have been appointed as joint administrators of Manor House Schools Limited and its holding company, Rivico Properties Limited. Companies House lists Sandip Taank as director of both firms. Mr Zalkin told our sister website, Leicestershire Live: "For a school to close overnight is unheard of, so this is certainly one of the more unusual cases we have come across. "We are currently unable to comment on specific aspects of the administration due to ongoing investigations. "Like many smaller private schools, the school was facing significant challenges, however this does not explain why events unfolded as they did." A press release from Quantuma detailed that a mass walkout of teachers during the second … [Read more...] about Administrators appointed after private school in Ashby suddenly closed

Council ‘wrongly advised’ mum applying for school place
Leicestershire County Council has admitted it gave the ‘wrong advice’ to a mum which led to her son missing out on a place at the family’s first choice school. The woman took her complaint to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman after she was advised to put the wrong address on her application form by a council worker. The mother and son were living temporarily with family while the father carried out renovations at their permanent address. When she called Leicestershire County Council and explained the situation she was told to put her current address on the form and add a note in additional information section outlining the family’s set up. In April, when it made its decisions about school places, the council told the family that the boy did not have a place at the school as the family did not live in the catchment area. When she called to query the decision, the council told her it did not look at the additional information section and therefore the … [Read more...] about Council ‘wrongly advised’ mum applying for school place

The former businessman from Cosby, Leicestershire, was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary after the crash, where his family were told that he had two massive brain tumours. Struggling to cope with his shocking diagnosis the 43-year-old, later found himself being sectioned, as he struggled with psychosis brought on by the tumours - even being restrained by six police officers. "Curtis was a happy, healthy fun, loving guy with a great sense of humour," said his sister Nicole. "He was an amazing person loved by many. He very confident and outgoing and so handsome." His tumours have meant that as well as a dramatic change in personality, … [Read more...] about Dad diagnosed with two terminal brain tumours after he ‘lost control’ of his legs while driving
