Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019 and has since raised millions of pounds for charity. The former Rhinos joined the club's team to raise money for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Rob Burrow Centre for MND appeal. Sinfield said it was "brilliant" to complete the course together. "It's been a while since we have been able to do some sort of running or activity," he said. Rob Burrow: New Leeds marathon to honour rugby league legend
Published 11 April Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A new marathon has been launched to honour rugby league legend Rob Burrow. The former Leeds Rhinos player was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019 and has gone on to raise millions of pounds for charity. The marathon, which will take place in May 2023, was inspired by Burrow's teammate Kevin Sinfield who set himself fundraising running challenges. "Any opportunity to raise awareness and funds to fight MND is wonderful," Burrow said. The 26.2-mile (42km) route will take place in Leeds with money raised going towards Leeds Hospitals Charity's appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease. The MND Association, which supports people with the disease and their families, will also benefit from the run. Bradford-born Gration presented Look North from 1984-1994 before returning to the programme in 1999. A woman who has coached budding gymnasts for more than four decades will also become an MBE for services to gymnastics and the community. Christine Bowker, an award-winning gymnast, founded Greenhead gymnastics club in Huddersfield in 1968. Gration said of his MBE for services to broadcasting: "It is an overwhelming honour. Mr Gration joined the BBC in 1978 and Look North in 1982. He presented his last show in 2020. During his career, he won two Royal Television Society (RTS) awards for sports documentaries and he won the RTS Best Presenter award twice. Mr Gration's wife, Helen, paid tribute to her husband, saying: "He will forever be with us." She added: "Our three boys and I loved Harry totally. Boy, 16, charged after three die in wrong-way M606 crash

Last month police said a van failed to stop for officers then drove the wrong way on the M606 near Bradford, colliding with a taxi. Taxi drive Sohail Ali, 28, and his passenger Simon McHugh, 49, died in the crash on 13 June. Kyden Leadbeater, 18, a passenger in the van, also died. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court on Monday. Police said he is charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, robbery, theft of motor vehicle and threatening with an offensive weapon in a public place. Burrow, 39, was recognised for services to rugby league and the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) community in the 2021 New Year Honours list. He was diagnosed with MND, a degenerative condition affecting nerves in the brain and spinal cord, in 2019. Since his diagnosis, he has documented his life with the disease to increase awareness and raise funds. Mr Gration joined the BBC in 1978 and Look North in 1982. He presented his last show in 2020. He had also reported for Match of the Day and Grandstand and commentated on Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Cricket fans at the Headingley test match on Saturday joined in a round of applause for the broadcaster. Yorkshire County Cricket Club was among those from the world of sport to pay tribute to Mr Gration, who was a club board member between 2013 and 2015. The pair were both presented with degrees from the faculty of arts. Mr Gration was born in Bradford and presents BBC Look North and the Super League Show, and is a regular commentator for BBC's Final Score. Mr Skarsgard was a student at the university and appears as vampire Eric Northman in the TV series True Blood. Mr Gration said: "It was a great occasion, especially getting to share the stage with an acting superstar. "All the girls swooned over him, and I signed lots of autographs for grandmas."
