Commons leader Andrea Leadsom has resigned from the cabinet, saying she no longer believes the government will deliver Brexit . In her resignation letter to Theresa May, she said: "I no longer believe that our approach will deliver on the referendum result". She also said that holding another referendum would be 'dangerously divisive'. Leadsom's resignation comes amid intensifying pressure on Theresa May to quit as prime minister. She added in her letter: “No one has wanted you to succeed more than I have, but I do now urge you to make the right decisions in the interests of the country, this government and our party.” A string of ministers have demanded meetings with the PM. Some are said to be furious about her 'new deal' to encourage MPs to back her withdrawal bill. South Northamptonshire MP Andrea Leadsom has resigned from her role on Theresa May's cabinet saying she doesn't believe the Government's approach will deliver Brexit. The Leader of the House of Commons said she couldn't support a deal that opened the door to a second referendum that would "undermine the union".She also believes there has been "a complete breakdown of collective responsibility" in Mrs May's cabinet."I do not believe we will be a truly sovereign United Kingdom through the deal that is now proposed," Mrs Leadsom wrote in her resignation letter."I have always maintained that a second referendum would be dangerously divisive, and I do not support the Government willingly facilitating such a concession. Mrs Leadsom said it was with "a heavy heart" that she was standing down, but that she no longer believes the government's Brexit approach will deliver on the referendum result. Mrs Leadsom was a high-profile Brexiteer, becoming a figurehead of the Vote Leave campaign. Her resignation, which comes amid a backlash over Theresa May's new Brexit plan, is the 36th by a minister under Mrs May, 21 of whom have been over Brexit. Posting her resignation letter on Twitter, she wrote: "It is with great regret and a heavy heart that I have decided to resign from the Government."
