Bosses can legally demand that employees get vaccinated against Covid-19 to protect themselves and other people at work under existing health and safety laws, ministers have said. Companies wishing to extend their health and safety policy to insist all staff are vaccinated against the virus can adopt a 'jab for a job' approach, but may run into problems if they sack those who do not comply. The issue has reportedly divided Whitehall, with some ministers supporting the enforced vaccination scheme in the interests of 'public health' whilst others believe it would foster discrimination, The Telegraph reports. Yesterday vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi spoke out against the prospect of 'vaccine passports', which would provide state-issued proof that an individual had been vaccinated, suggesting the documentation would lead to discrimination. Key Worker Mark Reid from North Shields receives the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine at a mass vaccination hub at … [Read more...] about Bosses CAN legally demand that staff get vaccinated against Covid under health and safety laws, ministers say

UK records most covid deaths in a day since epidemic started: Fatality count DOUBLES in a week to 1,325 with 68,000 new cases as SAGE warns R rate could now be as high as 1.4 and up to 150,000 people are catching Covid each day
Britain today suffered its deadliest day since the Covid pandemic began after health chiefs declared 1,325 more Covid fatalities and another record-high 68,053 infections. The grisly death toll - which has doubled in a week and surpasses the 1,224 declared on April 21 in the darkest day of the first wave - takes the UK to the brink of almost 80,000 victims. Experts fear the daily death counts will continue to spiral because of rocketing cases and hospitalisations, piling further pressure on Boris Johnson to speed up the sluggish vaccination programme designed to get Britain out of lockdown by mid-February. Department of Health figures show the UK has recorded more than 50,000 cases for 11 days in a row, with the five worst days of the pandemic all occurring since the start of 2021. Cases have risen by almost 30 per cent week-on-week. But a senior SAGE official today warned the actual number of Britons currently getting infected every day is closer to 150,000, claiming that the size of … [Read more...] about UK records most covid deaths in a day since epidemic started: Fatality count DOUBLES in a week to 1,325 with 68,000 new cases as SAGE warns R rate could now be as high as 1.4 and up to 150,000 people are catching Covid each day
Fourteen people stopped and fined trying to leave UK lockdown by the Channel Tunnel
At least 14 people have been stopped and fined for trying to LEAVE Britain via the Channel Tunnel in breach of the latest coronavirus rules. Police say eight people in one car were stopped by officers trying to travel from London to Bulgaria. Another three vehicles, each with two people inside, were also blocked from travelling to the Continent from the Midlands and Norfolk. More than 50 people were spoken to by officers at the Port of Dover over the course of three days last week. All were trying to leave the UK in breach of the Government's COVID-19 restrictions that ban unnecessary travel last until December 2. Kent Police said officers stopped more than 50 people over four days from last Thursday through to Sunday, and told them to go home due to the current laws imposed by the Government. Some of those stopped at the Channel Tunnel and Dover Port were also travelling in groups of more than two and mixing with other households, police said. All were trying to … [Read more...] about Fourteen people stopped and fined trying to leave UK lockdown by the Channel Tunnel
One in five going into workplace unnecessarily amid UK Covid crisis
Employers are putting workers at risk and increasing Covid infection rates in communities, unions have said, as research found that as many as one in five people have been going into their workplace unnecessarily. The alarming findings came as the government’s outgoing employment adviser, Matthew Taylor, said employers breaking Covid rules should be named, shamed and fined. Polling conducted by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) found that many people were coming under undue pressure from their employer to work from offices when they could work from home. “No one should be forced into the office or another workplace if they can do their job from home. Bad bosses are needlessly putting workers at risk and increasing transmission in local communities,” said the TUC’s general secretary, Frances O’Grady. She said unions had received hundreds of complaints from workers who felt they should be working remotely to help protect public health during the pandemic. Taylor, the government’s … [Read more...] about One in five going into workplace unnecessarily amid UK Covid crisis
Heartbroken mum pleads for an ‘Ella’s Law’ after daughter, 9, was killed by air pollution
A HEARTBROKEN mum pleaded for an “Ella’s Law” yesterday to tackle air pollution which killed her nine-year-old daughter. Rosamund Kissi-Debrah wants to honour her memory by putting binding limits on deadly nitrogen dioxide levels. She has written an open letter to MPs urging them to think of her lost child and vote for changes in the Environment Bill this week. Ella, who would have been 17 today, is the first person whose death was officially attributed to breathing dirty air. But her mum said that pollution is partly responsible for up to 64,000 premature deaths in Britain every year. She told The Sun on Sunday: “The impact of air pollution on the nation’s health is immense. “I am determined to fight on to honour my daughter’s memory by introducing new laws that can save many lives.” Ms Kissi-Debrah, a teacher and advocate for the World Health Organisation, added: “I miss Ella every day. I think about her all the time. “She was gifted, talented and … [Read more...] about Heartbroken mum pleads for an ‘Ella’s Law’ after daughter, 9, was killed by air pollution
