A British family said they have been forced to travel to Brazil for a dentist appointment and said it's cheaper than the UK. The Woodmanseys said they travel 6,000 miles from Yorkshire just so they can get a check-up after struggling to get seen by the NHS . Stuart, 43, came up with the solution as an alternative to spending £1,000 on private treatment in the UK. Instead, the security consultant takes his wife Kedma, 41, and their son Jacob to the dentist in Kedma’s home city of São Paulo, when they are meant to be enjoying their holiday. The dad says he last had a check-up abroad just before the pandemic hit, but plans to visit during his next getaway, reports The Sun. The revelation comes after it was found that nine in 10 dental practices were unable to welcome new NHS patients. Stuart, of Market Weighton, East Yorkshire, said: “I can’t get an appointment in our area, I’ve been trying for years. "I have to go in Brazil when we’re there on holiday.” He … [Read more...] about Brit family travel to Brazil for dentist appointment because its cheaper than UK

North Korea fires powerful missile into the sea in latest weapons test
North Korea has carried out yet another missile test as it continues to lash out at its neighbours and the West. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed it detected three rockets crashing into the sea of its east coast. Japan’s defense ministry said it believes the weapon used is a ballistic missile. Its the 16th similar test ordered by Kim Jong Un so far this year, an alarming rise linked to its increasing diplomatic isolation. Nuclear talks with the US initiated by Donald Trump have stalled and Pyongyang is desperate to have sanctions lifted. Kim previously declared a pause in testing while the possibility of economic relief in return for giving up nukes was explored. But with negotiations in limbo and neither side likely to budge, the hermit state is spiraling towards reviving full atomic exercises. Analysts in Washington and Seoul believe North Korea is on the brink of carrying out its first nuclear test since 2017. Remote land in the north east of … [Read more...] about North Korea fires powerful missile into the sea in latest weapons test

Chef says Tory MP is ‘treating people like peasants’ after cooking 30p meals
A chef has had a go at cooking 30p meals to prove a Tory MP’s claims that many people ‘cannot cook or budget’ as being ‘rubbish’. Ashfield MP Lee Anderson sparked fury last week when he stated it was possible to cook ‘nutritious meals’ for around 30p a day . Now, a chef has decided to put Mr Anderson’s claims to test, and unsurprisingly has found them to be ‘a load of rubbish’. Gareth Mason, 34, set about proving Mr Anderson wrong by challenging himself to cook seven basic meals that would fit within the meagre 30p budget. The professional chef who has 19-years of experience found that while you could create meals for 30p – they were not nutritionally balanced or big enough sustain an adult. With the limited budget Gareth made crab stick salad, burgers, spaghetti Napoli, beans on toast, a jacket potato with beans, and a ‘spam fritter’ made from cheap luncheon meat. ‘I’ve come to the conclusion it’s a load of rubbish,’ the head chef at Absolute Bistros in … [Read more...] about Chef says Tory MP is ‘treating people like peasants’ after cooking 30p meals
Inmates and guards reveal what life is like in one of Britain’s toughest prisons
Disturbing accounts of assaults on prison officers at HMP Belmarsh have been given by former guards and inmates. In one incident, prisoners are said to have swarmed on a victim at the high security jail and attacked him with socks filled with tuna cans. In another, a guard purportedly had a knife held to his throat as two Category A inmates tried to escape as they were being taken to court. The accounts follow Metro.co.uk’s reports about incidents of ‘serious violence’ at jails across England and Wales last year, which have also included cases of power struggles and unrest. They are given in a new Channel 5 documentary and have been accompanied by a fresh claim that senior managers at Belmarsh are ‘appeasing’ dangerous behaviour rather than clamping down on it. The former prisoners who have given insights of life at the men’s prison in south-east London include Babar Ahmad, who was detained in the UK for eight years without trial. In December 2013, he … [Read more...] about Inmates and guards reveal what life is like in one of Britain’s toughest prisons
‘Coward’ Hashem Abedi jailed for life for murdering 22 victims of Manchester bombing
The brother of the Manchester Arena bomber has been sentenced to life in jail with a minimum of 55 years after being found guilty of 22 counts of murder. Hashem Abedi, 23, had also been found guilty of attempted murder and plotting to cause an explosion likely to endanger life on March 17, shortly before trials were halted by the pandemic. Four policemen to face trial over Babar Ahmad ‘assault’
Four police officers will face trial for allegedly assaulting a terror suspect during his arrest, it has been confirmed. The quartet allegedly forced Babar Ahmad to kneel and demanded: ‘Where is your god now?’ They are to be charged with causing actual bodily harm. All four have now been put on restricted duties on London’s Metropolitan force. The Crown Prosecution Service said PCs Nigel Cowley, 32, John Donohue, Roderick James-Bowen, 39, and Mark Jones , 43, will appear before magistrates next month. Simon Clements, of the CPS, said it initially declined to press charges in 2004 as there was little prospect of a conviction. However, following Ahmad’s successful civil case, a further review of the evidence was undertaken and the opinion is now to charge the four officers. ‘Babar Ahmad was arrested by the officers on suspicion of terrorismoffences. Mr Ahmad suffered a number of injuries during that arrest, including heavy bruising to the head, neck, wrists and … [Read more...] about Four policemen to face trial over Babar Ahmad ‘assault’
Vladimir Putin ‘hid abdomen surgery with deepfake video address’
Vladimir Putin has undergone surgery to remove fluid from his abdomen, an anti-Russian Telegram channel has claimed. Speculation about the Russian president’s poor health has intensified ever since he invaded Ukraine , with reports even alleging he is due to have a cancer operation ‘in the near future’ . According to a post shared on Generall SVR , the 69-year-old Russian President used deep-fake technology and computer graphics to ‘create the illusion of his presence’ during an online meeting with his security council last week. The post further alleges some of the officials knew what was happening, while the rest were ‘so afraid’ of Putin they could not allow ‘the thought of substitution’. ‘Putin did not hold this meeting in real time,’ it said, claiming his introduction was recorded in advance. ‘I must say the “experiment” succeeded. ‘On the night of Thursday, May 12, to Friday, May 13, Putin underwent a surgical procedure to remove fluid from his … [Read more...] about Vladimir Putin ‘hid abdomen surgery with deepfake video address’
