You never saw Prince Philip slouch… he was the human spirit level

· April 10, 2021 ·

PHILIPPOS Andreou of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg – or Prince Philip for short – could so easily have become a drug-addled Eurotrash wastrel. We see it all the time in magazines like Hello! — stupid people with stupid names and stupid titles sitting on their stupid boats surrounded by a bunch of stupid girls and some rolled-up bank notes. * Read our live blog for the very latest news on Prince Philip's death ... T’was ever thus. There was some Eurotrash guy in the Sixties who remembered, at two in the morning, during a coke-fuelled poker game in Paris that he was due to play in a tennis tournament in Monaco the next day. So he ran out, leaped into his Ferrari and got 200 yards before he crashed into a tree and died. That’s the world Prince Philip is from. He was born in Corfu but lived in France before going to a British public school where it must have taken 20 minutes to read out his name in assembly. His dad was the king of both Greece and … [Read more...] about You never saw Prince Philip slouch… he was the human spirit level

Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain, review: This bloated Noughties nostalgia rush did Goody a disservice

· August 7, 2019 ·

A s the alumni of this year’s Love Island readjust to the outside world and try to parlay their 15 minutes of fame into provincial panto roles and protein-shake endorsement deals, Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain (Channel 4) was a salutary lesson. Ten years after the death of Jade Goody , this documentary traced her meteoric rise and tragic fall . When the Bermondsey dental nurse with drug addict parents appeared in the 2002 series of Big Brother, she was initially vilified. Snobs dismissed her as “thick”. Tabloids cruelly caricatured her as a “chav” and a “pig”. Gradually, though, Goody won over millions with her wit, warmth and guileless honesty. By the time she was voted out of the Big Brother house, she was a media sweetheart, made a fortune and even considered running for Mayor of London. The mind boggles. Here, archive footage provoked a Noughties nostalgia rush, back to when Big Brother and Pop Idol were in their pomp, before reality TV saturation. The film … [Read more...] about Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain, review: This bloated Noughties nostalgia rush did Goody a disservice

· April 11, 2021 ·

The Queen described her husband the Duke of Edinburgh's death as leaving a "huge void in her life", Prince Andrew has said. Paying tribute to his father, Prince Philip , the Duke of York said his death means "we've lost almost the grandfather of the nation". Members of the Royal Family have been attending a service at the the Royal Chapel of All Saints of Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. Edward told reporters: "It's been a bit of a shock. However much one tries to prepare oneself for something like this it's still a dreadful shock. "And we're still trying to come to terms with that. And it's very, very sad." UK Weather forecast – Snow TOMORROW as temperatures plunge below freezing ahead of pub and shops reopening

· April 11, 2021 ·

SNOW is expected to hit parts of Britain TOMORROW while some regions will enjoy cold sunshine as pubs and shops reopen to Brits. Despite the sun it is still expected to be cold on Monday so anyone venturing out for a pint should probably take a coat. Forecasters say temperatures could be on the chilly side, with the mercury expected to struggle to reach over 8C in London. Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said Monday would be “a cold day with bright weather for most”, adding: “It’s certainly looking fine, dry and cold in the South.” England saw its coldest April day in eight years on Wednesday, with the temperature hitting a freezing -7.5C in Benson, South Oxfordshire. And another Arctic plunge is on its way to the UK, according to The Weather Outlook. The forecaster predicted in an update: "A band of patchy rain pushes down over central and southern counties today. "Areas to its north will be cold and bright, but wintry showers develop. "The weekend brings … [Read more...] about UK Weather forecast – Snow TOMORROW as temperatures plunge below freezing ahead of pub and shops reopening

· April 11, 2021 ·

Aldi customers have been left fuming after a hanging egg chair which was supposed to go on sale this morning, still isn't available online. The egg chairs - which are a firm fan favourite and usually sell out in minutes - were supposed to be available from 8am this morning. But customers have been trying to make purchases all morning and haven't been able to buy them. The website still says that the 'On Sale' date is April 11, 2021, but when you go to add the chairs to your basket, the button is blocked and it says 'coming soon'. Some customers have said they've wasted hours trying to buy the chairs to no avail. Aslam tweeted: "Wasted time trying to find one. Website still says coming soon (11-April-2021) and now its 11am." Georgina added: "Will the egg chair be available to buy today? Says the 11th online. Thanks Aldi."
