Some Antarctic ice shelves have GROWN in the last 20 years despite global warming, study finds
Parts of Antarctica have actually gained ice during the last 20 years, new research reveals, despite the continent suffering significant loss due to global warming . Researchers say that sea ice, pushed against ice shelves by a change in regional wind patterns, may have helped to protect these ice shelves from losses. Ice shelves are floating sections of ice attached to land-based ice sheets and they help guard against the uncontrolled release of inland ice into the ocean. During the late 20th century, high levels of warming in the eastern Antarctic Peninsula led to the collapse of the Larsen A and B ice shelves in 1995 and 2002, respectively. These events drove the acceleration of ice towards the ocean, ultimately accelerating the Antarctic Peninsula's contribution to sea level rise. There was then a period when some ice shelves in the eastern Antarctic grew in area, despite global warming. Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea happy to be the ‘bad guys’ against nation’s favourite Liverpool
Thomas Tuchel has backed Pep Guardiola’s claim that everybody supports Liverpool and insisted that his Chelsea “bad guys” want the FA Cup trophy, not “the sympathy of the country” on Saturday. And Tuchel has insisted that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp , who he affectionately referred to as “Kloppo”, is the master of turning his teams into the underdogs to win the public’s affection. Chelsea face Liverpool at Wembley for the second time this season after losing the Carabao Cup final on penalties , with Klopp’s team still chasing an unprecedented quadruple. Manchester City are fighting Liverpool for the Premier League title and Guardiola said last week that “everyone in this country supports Liverpool.” Asked about those comments ahead of Chelsea’s latest clash against Liverpool, Tuchel said: “I am not a Liverpool fan. I can understand why he said it. I can understand why he has that feeling. In general, I would say it is hard to really argue with it. “You know Kloppo is … [Read more...] about Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea happy to be the ‘bad guys’ against nation’s favourite Liverpool

Somalia’s new president promises peace and reconciliation
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is the first Somali president to win a second term . After his first presidency from 2012 to 2017, he now got elected once again. A member of the powerful Hawiye clan, Mohamud entered politics in 2011 when he founded the Union for Peace and Development Party. His 2012 election victory raised hopes of stability for a country beset by an Islamist insurgency . Mohamud's government at the time was the first to be given global recognition and billions in foreign aid since the collapse of Siad Barre's authoritarian regime in 1991. Yet Somalis have not forgotten that Mohamud's first presidency was marked by corruption scandals and political turmoil. What about political accountability? Political analyst Mohamed Mubarak is skeptical about whether things will be better this time round. "The incoming president used the state to enrich himself and his friends" during his first term, Mubarak told DW. No accountability mechanisms have been put in place … [Read more...] about Somalia’s new president promises peace and reconciliation
Prince Harry says he wants to protect his children from ‘online harm’
Prince Harry has spoken candidly about fatherhood and how he and his wife Megan Markle want to protect their children from “online harm,” while also encouraging them to “speak up”. The Duke of Sussex discussed social media and how it can affect his three-year-old son Archie and 11-month-old daughter Lilibet on Monday at 5Rights Foundation’s webinar launch for its Global Child Online Safety Toolkit. According to Prince Harry, he and Markle are worried about how the “next generation,” including his children, could be treated unkindly online. “As parents, my wife and I are concerned about the next generation growing up in a world where they are treated as digital experiments for companies to make money and where things like hatred and harm are somehow normalised,” he said during the webinar, according to The Daily Mail . I married a man 46 years older four WEEKS after meeting – family disowned us & strangers think he’s my grandad
JUST four weeks after meeting, a Philadelphia woman married her reiki healer – who is 46 years her senior. Danielle Reiff, 25, booked a session with 71-year-old reiki master Howard Reiff after suffering from mysterious aches and pains. Howard soon cured Danielle, and despite being over four decades apart in age, the pair fell in love and eloped. Afterwards, friends and family disowned the couple, whilst strangers confused Howard for Danielle’s grandfather. But Danielle and Howard have refused to let any negative comments get to them and insist they are happier than ever. Danielle, a delivery driver, said: “Howard and I have dealt with so much judgement and hate for our relationship. “Now, two years on from our whirlwind romance and wedding, we don’t care what people think. “Howard is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I owe him my life.” READ MORE ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS FAIRY TALE ENDING I married my nanny instead of firing … [Read more...] about I married a man 46 years older four WEEKS after meeting – family disowned us & strangers think he’s my grandad

Arsenal ‘consider selling star defender Gabriel Magalhaes just two years after arrival with Juventus keen on transfer’
ARSENAL are reportedly considering offloading centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes as Juventus eye up a possible summer swoop. The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Gunners since he made the move to the Emirates from Lille in 2020 for £27million . Brazilian ace Gabriel has formed a formidable partnership with Ben White having appeared in 33 Premier League games. No other centre-back in the top-flight has scored more than the ex-Dinamo Zagreb loanee's four goals this term. But in a shock report, it has been claimed that the North London outfit are willing to part ways with the player. Italian media revealed earlier this month that Juventus were lining up an offer .
