Britain’s biggest carmaker, Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc, is moving all production of its Land Rover Discovery to Slovakia from a plant near Birmingham, which will be retooled to accommodate a new generation of electric cars. The company, owned by Tata Motors Ltd, will create a new factory platform at its Solihull, U.K., plant that will enable the production of cars in electric, petrol and diesel versions, said people familiar with the matter, asking not to be named because the information isn’t public. Jaguar Land Rover's sales jumped by more than a quarter in April despite its plans to cut jobs and production as demand falters amid Brexit concerns. The figures Tata Motors, the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover, reported retail sales of 45,180 vehicles in April 2018, up almost 12 per cent from the year before. It said new models including the Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Discovery and the Jaguar E-Pace were driving its success. Jaguar Land Rover is cutting 1,000 jobs and shuffling staff around its factories as sales fall. The company will not be renewing the contracts of agency staff at its Solihull plant which builds the XE and XF saloons and sports cars, with the workers leaving JLR in May and June.
