Labour party brexit
Labour in the UK has a duty to prevent a no-deal Brexit, Sir Keir Starmer has said as the party appeared set to back the option of a fresh referendum on European Union membership.Delegates at the party’s conference in Liverpool are expected to back a plan that could lead to a fresh public vote which could include the option of ditching Brexit altogether.Sir Keir, who said he would vote to stay in the EU if that was an option, played down the divisions at the top of the party over the plan.Under the terms of the motion set to be voted on at the conference on Tuesday, if Labour cannot force an early general election it will “support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote”. Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir said the scope of the motion was “wide enough to encompass the option of Remain” in any referendum. His comments came after shadow chancellor John McDonnell signalled he would want any second Brexit referendum … [Read more...] about British Labour party’s Brexit referendum plan set for conference vote
Chuka Ummuna is absolutely right that there is a need to act when it comes to antisemitism. But the Labour leadership has shown time and again it is unwilling to act. And worse still, Jeremy Corbyn has undermined those who speak up about antisemitism in the party. He and other moderates will eventually retire. Would they like their political epitaph to be that they stayed in an antisemitic party which simply could not change? Or would they prefer to be remembered for their courage in breaking away and starting something new or joining a party like the Lib Dems whose values they are more closely aligned to? I have a lot of respect for those Labour MPs brave enough to stand up against antisemitism and racism in their ranks. But as every day passes when those MPs stay in the current Labour Party that respect diminishes. The time has now come for the moderates to leave. Their political home has left them. JEREMY Corbyn's son helped make a Labour Party broadcast which starred a former BNP supporter who made a series of rants about Muslims. The Labour boss's youngest son, 24, recruited Carl Walmsey to appear in a video to sing his praises. The Cumbria-based dad-of-four said in the clip: "He wants good things for the country, especially for my kind of people, working class, down the bottom of the spectrum. "We need Labour, it's as simple as that." But now it has emerged that he is a former British National Party backer, and written a series of vile messages online. He wrote on Facebook that he hoped people would vote for "the only hope this country has the British National Party", The Times reported. And in a series of other messages uncovered by the newspaper, he posted a string of offensive messages about Muslims and Islam. He said back in 2012: "I hate the islamic faith! I hate sharia law! I f***ing despise how much our government tip toe round the scummy bastards. I feel a hatred I … [Read more...] about Jeremy Corbyn’s son ‘recruited ex-BNP supporter to star in Labour Party broadcast’
ISRAEL'S Labour party has suspended all ties with Jeremy Corbyn over the ongoing row over anti-Semitism. THE Chair of Labor Party Israel has announced it will be cutting ties with the UK party boss while he "fail[s] to adequately address the anti-Semitism within Labour Party UK". A letter from Avi Gabbay accused the Labour boss of showing "hostility to the Jewish community" and allowing "anti-Semitic statements and actions" as leader of the party. And he claimed the boss had a "very public hatred of the policies of the Government of the State of Israel". "I write to inform you of the temporary suspension of all formal relations between the Israel Labor Party and the Leader of the Labor Party UK," he wrote. There are some areas where the two parties will continue to work together, he added, but "we cannot retain relations with you, Leader of Labour Party UK". Labour Friends of Israel's Director Jennifer Gerber said today: "We fully understand why the Israeli Labor Party has decided to … [Read more...] about Israeli Labour Party suspends all ties with Jeremy Corbyn over anti-Semitism row
