Rocket Lab has successfully launched its first fully commercial rocket into orbit from its Mahia Peninsula site. Today's mission was dubbed 'It's Business Time' and the Electron was launched at 4.50pm and was commanded by Rocket Lab's factory in Mount Wellington, Auckland. Earlier in the year Rocket Lab was unsuccessful in launching the rocket, following an issue with its motor controller. It had a successful test launch in January. Now fixed, the Electron will house six satellites and a technology demonstrator which will be sent to low earth orbit and feed data back to earth. The satellites are from Spire, Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems, Fleet Space Technologies, as well as a payload from the Irvine Cube Sat STEM Program and a technology demonstrator built by High Performance Space Structure Systems GmBH, will monitor social and commercial services such as deforestation, global internet from space, weather predictions and crops. An Auckland property investor and developer has told victims of properties where meth has been smoked to clean their houses with sugar soap or other common cleaners. David Whitburn, an ex-lawyer and author who was also Auckland Property Investors Association president, said the alarm over meth cleanup in lightly contaminated places was unnecessary. But Simon Fleming, a director of testing business Meth Xpert NZ, said he was concerned about this advice because professionals should be brought in to clean up contaminated houses. Cleaning products might reduce meth levels, but would not bring them down to levels which he considered would be safe, he said. Whitburn disagreed. “You don’t necessarily need to call in expensive meth-remediation companies who charge thousands of dollars to fix a property where meth has been smoked. It’s different if the place has been used as a clandestine lab because contamination will be much more serious. “But if meth has just been … [Read more...] about Meth clean-up: sugar soap works, says developer
Housing New Zealand says in two years, 1338 state houses were decontaminated for meth - an exercise that would have been completely needless in almost all cases. Most of the decontaminated state homes were in Auckland and Wellington - two centres that have experienced well-documented housing problems, including stubborn waitlists for state housing. Figures provided to Newshub by Housing NZ show over three years, 488 homes in Auckland - where the house crisis is most acute - were decontaminated. And that's just the state houses - that figure would be much higher if social housing and private rentals were included. The cleaning of a house that tests positive can cost between $2000 and $50,000 or more. A report from the Prime Minister's chief scientist Sir Peter Gluckman on Tuesday found no evidence of negative health effects associated with non-users living in houses where meth was previously smoked. That means millions were needlessly spent cleaning state houses while people waited for … [Read more...] about Meth myth: 1338 state homes decontaminated in two years
