Boris says it wouldn’t be ‘responsible’ for him to leave Number 10
Boris Johnson has said leaving Number 10 would not be the ‘responsible’ thing to do, given the challenges facing the country. The prime minister has been badly wounded by a wave of resignations from senior colleagues and junior ministers calling for him to step down. Reports suggest a delegation of Cabinet ministers – said to include Grant Shapps and Brandon Lewis – are heading to Downing Street to tell him he should quit . Michael Gove is thought to have already done so . Mr Johnson appeared before the Liaison Committee on Thursday, during which he was confronted with one of his own past quotes about leaders who cling to power long after they have lost all authority. Labour MP Darren Jones challenged the PM: ‘”When a regime has been in power for too long, when it has fatally exhausted the patience of the people, and when oblivion finally beckons – I am afraid that across the world you can rely on the leaders of that regime to act solely in the interests of … [Read more...] about Boris says it wouldn’t be ‘responsible’ for him to leave Number 10
‘I’m not a quitter – but enough is enough’: Sajid Javid’s resignation speech in full
Sajid Javid caused fresh humiliation for Boris Johnson this afternoon as he explained in detail why he no longer had faith in the embattled prime minister. The former health secretary sensationally quit alongside Chancellor Rishi Sunak yesterday, sparking a wave of resignations that has pushed the government to the brink of collapse. In a statement in the House of Commons, Mr Javid insisted he is ‘not a quitter’ but he could not stand by Mr Johnson after it emerged he appointed Chris Pincher as a deputy chief whip despite knowing about sexual misconduct allegations against him. He suggested it was the final nail in the coffin after standing by the PM during partygate and other scandals, saying: ‘Treading the tightrope between loyalty and integrity has become impossible.’ Mr Javid told MPs: ‘Despite what it might seem, I am not one of life’s quitters. ‘I did not quit when I was told that boys like me don’t do maths, I didn’t quit when old school bankers said I … [Read more...] about ‘I’m not a quitter – but enough is enough’: Sajid Javid’s resignation speech in full
Slow motion collapse of Boris’s government continues as more ministers quit
Boris Johnson ’s government has continued to slowly fall apart as a growing number of ministers head for the door. A wave of resignations was triggered when health secretary Sajid Javid left the Cabinet last night over the handling of the Chris Pincher groping scandal. Minutes later, chancellor Rishi Sunak walked, two moves which threatened to bring down the government entirely. Outrage is growing over Johnson’s admission that he knew about a sexual assault allegation when he promoted him to deputy chief whip. No 10 changed its line a few times – initially saying the PM wasn’t aware of the claims, then saying they were either ‘resolved’ or ‘did not progress to a formal complaint’. But then, a former top Foreign Office diplomat Simon McDonald revealed that complaints made about Pincher’s behaviour in 2019 were indeed made at an official level. Since then, there has been a steady drip of resignations from government, including from solicitor general Alex Chalk and … [Read more...] about Slow motion collapse of Boris’s government continues as more ministers quit

For the first time since he coached freshman ball in Scott in the early 1990s, Dotson will be coaching on the home side at the stadium named after his father Bill Dotson this fall. The 1987 graduate of Acadiana High is already running the weight room this summer and will be coaching the quarterbacks and special teams for the Wreckin’ Rams in the 2022 season. “Acadiana has always been home to me,” Dotson said. “Some people say it, but I definitely bleed Green and Gold.
