England's latest World Cup star Kieran Trippier was once a mischievous Manchester City youngster with a lethal long pass. The 27-year-old Bury lad won his eighth cap, and impressed, as the national team got their Russia campaign underway with a 2-1 win over Tunisia on Monday night. And no-one was prouder than coach Steve Eyre, who helped to guide Trippier through his early years at City, and rates him as one of the best players he has worked with. Roberto Mancini released Trippier – part of their 2008 FA Youth Cup-winning team - in 2012 when he had Pablo Zabaleta , Micah Richards and Maicon ahead of him in the pecking order, and after three years at Burnley he was snapped up by Spurs. Eyre has not been surprised at the way his career has progressed, and the fact he is now an England man. And he feels he compares favourably to Kyle Walker, whose move from Spurs to City has opened the path for Trippier's advancement. “He would have been perfect now, for the way Pep wants … [Read more...] about What was Kieran Trippier like at Man City?
KIERAN TRIPPIER was the only outfield England player who failed to join in the team celebrations after Harry Kane's late winner against Tunisia. Tottenham star Kane was mobbed by his team-mates after heading the Three Lions to a dramatic late victory to start their World Cup campaign with victory. But as the England squad piled on top of their captain off the field, Trippier jogged back on his own before stopping just inside the Tunisia half. And that has thrown up the claim there is a rule in place which could penalise teams going all-out in celebration after scoring a goal. It has been suggested that under Fifa laws, play can resume after a goal once all members of the scoring team are no longer in the opposition half. And the claim is that if players are not on the field of play, that counts as them not being in the opposite half. So theoretically, that would mean a team who had just conceded would be able to kick-off while the scoring team were all still celebrating if they were … [Read more...] about World Cup 2018: Is this the bizarre reason why Kieran Trippier failed to celebrate Harry Kane’s late England winner?
Bury-born soccer star Kieran Trippier will be flying the flag for England at the World Cup. And his football-mad dad Chris is doing the same for his son back home. A 20ft high flagpole, hanging a huge St George’s Cross with the words ‘Trippier 2’ emblazoned across it, takes pride of place in the front garden of the family home in Summerseat. It has become a bit of a local landmark during international football tournaments, despite Bury council reportedly asking England-obsessive Chris to take it down after a complaint from a neighbour when he first put it up during the 2010 World Cup. And now Spurs star Kieran is realising his boyhood dream of representing his country on the biggest stage of all, the flag is flying prouder than ever. Speaking last year Kieran, 27, said: “My dad is mad for England. He had a big flag in his garden. It’s huge - a massive pole with a massive England flag - and he brought the telly into the garden when it was nice weather. I … [Read more...] about Dad of England star Kieran Trippier flies huge flag to support his son
Kieran Trippier has backed England captain Harry Kane to break his tournament duck at the World Cup and will be doing his best to provide the ammunition.Kane has been the Premier League’s most reliable goalscorer over the past four seasons, topping 20 goals in each campaign, and has struck 13 times in 24 caps for his country.Yet he has twice failed to hit the target during a summer competition – drawing a blank for the under-21s at the 2015 European Championship and then again for the senior side at Euro 2016.Gareth Southgate’s side need that drought to end in Russia and right-back Trippier, who provided six assists for Tottenham team-mate Kane last season, is confident the time is coming.“If it’s in the right area, Harry will be on the end of it and finish the goals,” he said.“At club level on the training field we practise deliveries, crosses and as long as you put it in the right areas, you know he’ll put them away.“It’s … [Read more...] about Kieran Trippier: Harry Kane ‘more than confident’ he will do well at World Cup
Gareth Southgate could find room for the teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold in his World Cup squad even though fellow right-back Kieran Trippier has been passed fit. The England manager, however, is not expected to call on Jonjo Shelvey, the in-form Newcastle United midfielder. Southgate is considering taking Trippier, Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker to Russia, which could be bad news for Chelsea captain Gary Cahill. Walker could effectively be named in Southgate’s squad as a centre-back, having impressed on the right of a back three in England’s friendlies against Holland and Italy. Cahill has reclaimed his place in Chelsea’s defence and would have been hoping that Joe Gomez’s injury would persuade Southgate to recall him, too. But the England manager could take Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold, 19, as back-up for Tottenham Hotspur right-back Trippier, who has recovered from the knee injury that kept him out of the final-day victory over Leicester City. … [Read more...] about Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier could both make World Cup squad
