Stewart Donald Q&A: Eight key points from the Sunderland owner’s meeting with supporters group
Sunderland owner Stewart Donald and new managing director Tony Davison held a question and answer session with Sunderland fans on Monday evening. The pair were present at supporters group Red and White Army’s latest meeting, which was held at the Stadium of Light. The supporters group have been running for around a year now and originally formed to bring about more communication between the club and fans during the Ellis Short era where communication was lacking. But under the new regime, where Donald has been as open as possible with the Black Cats fans, RAWA are working closely with the club as an independent voice of the fans to communicate issues, concerns and opinions for change. You can sign up to become a member of the supporters group at www.redandwhitearmy.co.uk , while you can also follow them on Twitter ( @RedAndWhite2017 ) for all the latest news on their business/latest meetings. 9 key points from a report by MPs on the impact of Brexit on devolution
The UK Government has come under fire for its lack of Brexit consultation with the Welsh Government, with a cross-party group of MPs stating that the way devolution works will have to change. Preparations to leave the EU have exposed unresolved issues about how power and sovereignty is shared between the UK Parliament and the Assembly and early Brexit legislation was condemned by the Welsh and Scottish First Ministers as a “naked power grab”. Clear that the status quo is not an option and calling on the UK Government to publish a devolution policy for the union, it states: “Leaving the EU means that the UK will have to … [Read more...] about 9 key points from a report by MPs on the impact of Brexit on devolution
The UK’s white paper – key points for expatriates
The UK government has published its white paper on the relationship it foresees with the EU after Brexit – here we summarise some key points relating to Britons in the EU. One point that stands out is that the UK government says it wants to maintain UK pension uprating and pensioners’ healthcare abroad for Britons who move to EU countries after Brexit. The statement comes in the new white paper released as part of a bid to meet the deadline for an ‘orderly’ Brexit next March. While such matters will not form part of the exit agreement as such (which focuses on rights of current expatriates, the ‘divorce bill’ and the Northern Ireland border), the aim is to achieve an outline of intentions to be attached to the exit agreement and to form the basis of further agreements to be signed during a transition period. The approach detailed in the paper gives mixed messages for the British expatriate community in the EU however, because while it seeks to … [Read more...] about The UK’s white paper – key points for expatriates
Key points of Britain’s post-Brexit trade plan
Here are the key points of the British government's proposal agreed Friday for the future relationship with the European Union after Brexit, centred on a new "free trade area for goods". The plan says it would avoid checks on the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland and protect manufacturing supply lines, while also fulfilling domestic promises to end the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice (ECJ), control migration and allow Britain to establish its own trade policy. - Common rulebook for goods - Britain and the EU would maintain a "common rulebook for goods including agri-food", with London agreeing in a treaty to "ongoing harmonisation" only with those EU rules necessary to reduce friction at the border. It says the plan would smooth trade in agricultural, food and fisheries products, and protect integrated supply chains and just-in-time processes that are vital to, for example, the automotive industry. Britain would expect to play a "strong role" in shaping the … [Read more...] about Key points of Britain’s post-Brexit trade plan
